hotstuff (3038), Indiana, USA May 1, 2008 Bottle. Small very fizzy white head that mostly diminished, splotchy amounts of lacing, hazy, very little carbonation, and a golden-orange hue. The nose was malt, honey, sweet, spice, and some hints of fruit. The flavor was sweet, some malt, honey, spice, and finishes dry. Tingly mouthfeel and mediuim in body. A mead and a beer? Hmmm. I agree with jsquire in his rating that "beer should be beer and mead should be mead". Next!
alexanderj (1218), San Diego, California, USA Aug 18, 2008 Bottle; last rating in VA. Poured a clear, slightly toasted gold. Smallish off white head. Aroma of alcohol, honey and fruit; sweet. Flavor was more mellow than I thought. Apples, honey and fruit predominantly with some breadiness. ONly marginally sweet. Wasn’t bad, but wasn’t very tasty. ucusty (914), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Jul 23, 2008 Tasted at the Carolina Crew gathering, Greenville NC - thanks to Todd for sharing! Gold pour fluffy white head, and excellent lace. Alcoholic nose. Honey and fruit (mostly apple) dominate the flavor TURDFERGUSON (1114), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Jul 22, 2008 Tasted at the Carolina Crew gathering, Greenville - thanks to ucusty for sharing! Pours a clear orange with a nice white lace. Nose is paint thinner and honey, but mainly the former. Flavor is much better than the nose, but is very bland with a bit of honey. Meh. emacgee (1010), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jul 21, 2008 Pours a translucent honey gold. Thin white head. The nose is sweet, has some honey, lots of apple in the nose. Flavor is decent, lots of apple, sweet, honey. Sweet sticky mouthfeel. JCB (949), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 20, 2008 Tasted at the Carolina Crew gathering, Greenville - thanks to ucusty for sharing! Golden orange pour with faint carbonation. Nice tart apple nose seems to veer away from style just a touch, but sure enough the brew (fairly mild) finishes with strong flavors of honey and even a trace of vanilla here and there.
