joekfsu (138), Boardman, Ohio, USA Mar 11, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours light copper with a with a 2 cm off white head. Aroma of dirty socks and dank, overwhelming. Initial flavor of sweet malt and grapefruit, followed by dry hoppiness and alcohol. Some lacing, light to medium body, short lasting aftertaste, and some noted alcohol. Drinkability is limited due to the pure craziness of this DIPA, but for the hopheads its glory. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Mar 11, 2008 On the beer engine at the Map Room. Poured crystal-clear medium orange with a tall, loose cap of off-white head. The aroma was about as juicy as they come.. pine resin and grapefruit came first with toasty drawn caramel, floral notes, and peppery spices behind.. very well-balanced! The same pine resin and juicy grapefruit roll over the tip of the tongue with heavy bitterness hitting toward the middle of the palate.. pine, pepper, and citrus were amplified by alcohol warmth.. succulent warm and juicy finish. Lower carbonation (from the engine) and coating on the palate.. I really dug the large, well-placed, greener bitterness. Awesome beer! 17thfloor (1402), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 7, 2008 Pours dark orange with a nice creamy beige head. Great piney/citrus hop aroma, somewhat dusty though. Just like some other Two Brothers brews, the malts are just way too sweet sticky and flat, and wow the alcohol really shows through on this one. Some saltiness and some honey. Extreme bitterness that plays really awkwardly off the alcohol. Not much balance, and I know its a Double IPA, but by balance I mean the flavors should compliment each other even if one is suppose to be dominant. Soft fluffy carbonation and juicy body, but really sticky finish. The alcohol is ridiculous. I’ll take a Bear Republic Hop Rod please. jbean (110), Illinois, USA Mar 2, 2008 Tap at the Pub. Very nice. The grapefruit and floral hops, classic american IPA, really come through in this much more than in other imperials i’ve had (like the 90 minute). Balanced with malts, complex, but very true to its IPA roots. Alcohol is hardly noticeable, dangerously drinkable. gws57 (1131), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA Mar 2, 2008 Had this one on draught at the brewpub in Warrenville, Illinois. Clear, dark orange pour with a thin, filmy white head, sweet caramel apple, ruby red grapefruit and rosy nose, flowery hops continues into the flavor with nuances of peach and cloces, very well balanced, a nice strong finish but not overpoweringly alcoholic. Wonderful. maniac4016 (114), bill clinton, Iceland Feb 23, 2008 rein-grapefruit on nose.
amber-copperish in color with beige head and thick lacing.
grapefruit dominates on palate, so lovers of citrussy hops will like. finishes with a dry-resin like finishes. good but far from from spectacular. Sephiroth (66), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Feb 22, 2008 Poured into a tulip, this beer is a somewhat hazy orange color. The smell is of piney, citrusy hops.
I am impressed by the taste. It seems to have that same hop characteristic that I so love in their Heavy Handed IPA. I detect piney, resiney, citrus flavors. There is a considerable caramel malt backbone to this stuff. The mouthfeel is the lightest I have encountered in this style. I actually really enjoy the light body. The drinkability is high. As a registered hophead, I feel a binge coming on. I wish I could have had this fresh. I’m not sure when my bottle was brewed, but the early reviews go back to March, and the bottle says its a limited release brew. Get it before its gone.
kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Feb 18, 2008 "Live" from the cask at the new Tap Room. Pretty tasty and as fresh as could be. Big foamy off-white head on a crystal clear dark amber. Dry resinous hops dominate the aroma. Flavor is grassy herbal hops piled on. Cask feel was nice and it left a strong lingering bitterness.
