pineypower (1075), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Feb 12, 2007 Found at a beer shop out in PA on my recent visit. Hazy dark orange body with a one- two finger fluffy white head. Aroma is of citrus hops. Taste is up front unapologetically hoppy, mostly citrus. Slight caramel/sweet malt flavors going on in the background, but the hops prevail, as they should in a double IPA of 100 IBU’s. FirkinHopHead (26), Munster, Indiana, USA Feb 7, 2007 A wonderful hop bomb. Huge aroma of grapefruit and pine. Quite4 drinkable for a IIPA. Not quite as complex as Dreadnaught, but this is some very good stuff. 640oz (3), Lakewood, Ohio, USA does not count Feb 3, 2007 22 oz bottle. First, pour this one carefully, because there may very well be sediment in the bottom of the bottle, there was in mine. Second, it doesn’t have nearly as much overwhelming hop taste as, say, Ruination IPA, but still a very fine IPA just the same. Kind of an orangey-amber, ample off-white head, a little more citrusy than piney, plenty of malt backbone, and boy is it STRONG. I can’t imagine anyone wanting more than 22 oz of this stuff. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Feb 3, 2007 Pours a hazy dark amber - not quite brown, and topped by an inch of fluffy off-white foam. Good head retention and lacing. Has pine hops and thick sweet malt in the aroma.
Bitter hops up front and lots of ’em. Mainly resinous green pine, some bitter juicy grapefruit in there as well. Strong caramel and toffee malt backbone. A big strong beer. Between medium and full body, mellow carbonation. MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Feb 1, 2007 Clear, deep orange with a medium head. Good lacing. Strong aroma of grapefruit and resin. A little sweet caramel and earth. Very bitter taste, especially in the finish. Extra sweet caramel doesn’t come close to balance. But it does make it drinkable. Medium bodied. Oily texture. Good, but not much more than that. markgugs (86), Wood Ridge, New Jersey, USA Jan 29, 2007 A: Pours a gorgeous coppery reddish brown with ample 2 finger head and lots of lacing, before I’ve even taken a sip. Just by looking at this beer (and reading the label which indicates 100.1 IBUs), you know it’s going to be a hoppy/malted monster.
S: For a beer that clearly has a lot of hops and malts, there isn’t much smell at all beyond a faint sweet scent, probably from the hops.
T: No doubt, this baby is a hophead’s dream. Slight grapefruit & pine flavors dominate the initial tastes and then gradual sweetness from the malt gives way to a wonderful, lingering finish before drying up and begging you to take that next sip (gulp). Not as sweet as some DIPAs, not as overly hopped as others, Two Brothers has created a strong balance here. Delicious.
M: Great mouthfeel to this one, the beer deliciously coats the tongue with loads of well, juices from the NW hops. Leaves a slight oily, slick residue with each sip, I find myself smacking my lips with each mouthful.
D: Exceptional. The beer is not heavy at all, especially given the almost barbaric 9.9% ABV, lol. A couple of these bombers and you’d be dancing the Sly & the Family Stone jig, if you get me.
I loved this beer, too bad it’s so limited. As the label says, "...get it now, ’cause when it’s gone, it’s gone. Boo hoo." lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA Jan 22, 2007 Updated: Jul 25, 2007pours a copper color with a one finger off white, light tannish head. aroma is of, (a little sweet malt, mango, and alcohol), but some nice piney hops. has a medium body with descent lacing but the head does not last to long. flavor is grain, pine hops, and a little mango. there is a lot of grain and hops in this one, but the alcohol is well hidden. definetly needs a little bit more malt, but overall not bad! aftertaste is nice piney, dry hops and has some nice carbonation as well. i also noticed a little sediment in my second glass. this is a powerfull and very different 2ipa but it’s pretty good! sloth (1657), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Jan 20, 2007 Small tan head, fair retention with some tiny spotty laceing. Seriously hazy orange glow. Nose of citrus, touch of pine, raw hoppiness and mildly sweet malts. Body is med/full, chewy. Big hops, big malts, pine and citrus. Dry caramelly malts are pretty big. Lightly earthy with notes of tea bag flavor. 9.9% ABV?! Finish is dry, a touch woody with a slammin bite!
