Nephilium (541), Ohio, USA Dec 24, 2006 A clear amber ale, with almost no head, and an aroma of hoppy bitterness. There is a strong bitterness, but without the usual pine or grapefruit flavors. There is very little carbonation in this beer, which accentuates the oily feel from the hops. Overall a decent beer, not the best IIPA I’ve had. BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 22, 2006 This beer pours a light absorbing dark brown with a moderate amount of head.
Smell is very appealing...a hop bitterness that is neither overtly sweet nor piney.
Taste is very hop-bold, but without being either citrus-y or piney. I’ve had this beer on draft at Roman’s Pub (Milwaukee) before, and believe it was better on draft.
Mouthfeel is only marginally sticky, which is somewhat remarkable given the very hoppy quality of this beer.
I found this beer is rather drinkable. tomhenderson (126), Carolinas area, USA Dec 5, 2006 22 oz bottle More pine than citrus in nose, this beer poured a clear copper with huge head and thick lacing during consumption. The taste lacked nothing short of its description. The clerk who sold it to me liked it better than Great Divide Hercules (which he also stocked), but I disagree. This is a wonderful beer but not quite to my liking as Hercules. Wished they had Dreadnaught and HopSlam but they’d sold out.... Naven (862), Poway, California, USA Nov 26, 2006 22 oz bottle from Footbalm. This beer has a super fresh, hoppy aroma. Smells just as one would expect with 100 ibu’s. The appearance was nice. The mouthfeel was a little thick, but overall, I liked this one. nothing stood out about it, but it was true to the style, and overall an enjoyable experience. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Nov 14, 2006 Strong resiny, leafy, earthy, citrus pine hops with some underlying sweetness in the nose. Opaque tan-orange body is topped by a shy, large bubbled, white, mostly diminishing head. Orange citrus and pine hops with plenty of tannins and earthy notes. Malt sweetness is somewhat lacking leaving bitterness feeling extreme due to lack of support or counterpoint. Alcohol is very apparent. Medium body is quite dry with somewhat low carbonation and slick texture. Strong alcohol warming. It is certainly well named if nothing else. Bottle sampled with beerbuzzmontreal, Lubiere, MartinT and Rastacouere. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA Nov 4, 2006 Better than expected, the Hop Juice poured out a nice hazy light orange color with a frothy off white head. The aroma was full of citrus anf floral hops--very nice. Taste was syrupy and thick (which I personally like). Flavors were lots of citrus and bitter hops with a decent malt presence. 2beerguys (299), North Shore, Massachusetts, USA Nov 2, 2006 Hop Juice pours a medium to dark amber color with a creamy, light-brown head. Good lacing left behind a mostly lasting head. Murky body with medium-sized particles. Aroma is a heavy hit of perfume hops and alcohol. Initial taste is moderately bitter, mellowing out slightly to a light bitter finish with average duration. Medium on the mouth, it has a creamy consistency with a moderate alcoholic feel. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Nov 2, 2006 I could smell the wonderful aroma of this beer the moment that cap was popped off. It is an amazing combination of super sweet tangerine, apricot, pineapple, and grapefruit. I don’t think any other beer I’ve had yet has smelled like this. My mouth is watering already. The beer pours a hazy deep golden orange. It has a generous amount of carbonatoin that is quite lively. There is a MASSIVE foamy light orange head that lasts and lasts. Its texture reminds me of whipped cream and I was actually able to scoop up a bunch of it on my finger! Lots of detailed lacing. Now for the first sip... Wow, very sweet, very malty, and VERY hoppy! It surprisingly tastes almost just like it smells with a wonderful blend of pine, floral, and juicy fruit flavors. The bitterness can be a bit intense at times, but generally it is pretty balanced. Don’t get me wrong though, this sucker is hoppy and bitter, but it’s very well done to the point that it doesn’t taste as bitter as it really is! I don’t think I’ve tasty any IPA/IIPA/Double or Triple IPA like this one at all. The alcohol definitely comes out in the finish masked only by some hop bitterness. Mouthfeel has a slight syrup quality to it, but just about perfect for the style. As this beer warms, the bitterness subsides some and it become more and more balanced. However, some of the great citrus and fruit flavors diminish. Surprisingly, the alcohol in the finish also seems to be less pronounced.
Two Brothers Hop Juice is an impressive Two Brothers brew. Based on all the other ratings, this one must have gotten better with age!
