Tmoney99 (4652), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Aug 3, 2006 Bottle. Poured hazy copper with a moderate white head that lasted with good lacing. Heavy caramel sour citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium bitter flavor with a medium balanced small alcohol finish of moderate duration. This is a standout beer. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jun 27, 2006 Hazy orange pour showing a fading white head. Sweet and alcoholic nose where orange juice and lime make for most of the flavours. Not very complex in its shy maltiness that lets alcohol take more room than I would like. Minty, herbal and juicy palate with bright citrus flavours that have too little to uplifts them to the hop heavens. Medium bodied, light oiliness, moderately active carbonation consisting of tiny bubbles. holdenn (1431), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 26, 2006 Updated: Aug 24, 2007before i even notice the aroma i notice why they call it hop juice. i ask the person who poured it if he cleaned the glass cause there are bits of hop floating around like a blizzard.
aroma is malty hoppy seems overwhelmingly like cascade hops but several others in there as well. pine and grapefruit fills the nose.
flavor puts it a little above other iipas with a decent amount of carmel malt balancing out the hops. full palate of different hop flavors grapefruit, citrus, but it could use a bit more hop spiciness. 11026 (1799), Alabama, USA Jun 24, 2006 Bottle from Beastie. Pours a slightly opaque, medium amber color. Scant white head fades moderately to quickly, could be the glass. Decent lacing left behind. Aroma is malty, moderate caramel and light nutty notes. Reminiscent of a moderately aged BW. Medium to full bodied with a lower perceived carbonation level. Nice balance of malt and hop. Lingering bitterness is not overwhelming. A good IIPA but not really running with the top dogs that I have sampled. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Jun 24, 2006 Pours rich medium / dark amber with a small head that still gives good lacing. Aroma is all hops, mainly citrus and perfumy with some pine mixed in as well. Medium / full bodied with light carbonation. Floating hops or yeast were suspended in the glass like a snow globe. Starts with a semi-sweet grainy malt that is quickly overtaken by the hops. Finish is heavily resiny & oily. There are lots of heavy hops - a combo of citrus, pine, perfume and wood - quite a variety of hop tastes, but it is missing spiciness. Nice IIPA. bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Jun 24, 2006 Very indicative of style, here. Pours a muddy amber brick with a diminishing head and chunky yeasty "floaties". Definite floral hops, pine and some grapefruit to the nose. Pine and grapefruit are found in the flavor, especially as the beer warms, along with caramel malts and a special Thai peppered hop permeating the pull. This makes for a lingering, spicy-peppered bitter finish, highlighting the back portion of the palate. Nicely carbonated (not too much), leaving a semi-oily mouthfeel. Good brew, and very hop complex. droopy49 (97), Lancaster, California, USA Jun 21, 2006 Thanks to Wallybrau for getting me this. 22oz bottle poured a dark amber color with an off-white head. Floral, hoppy aroma. Some strong malt notes as well. Good botter hop flavor with some citrus and a dry finish. Hoppiness is balanced with some malty notes, a bit too much malt in my opinion. Seems like too many of the DIPA’s use a lot of malt in order to increase the alcohol level. Good beer nonetheless. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Jun 20, 2006 (22oz. bottle) Pours a lightly cloudy amber body with an average off-white head and good lacing. Potent aroma of pineapple, grapefruit, and light notes of breadiness. Flavor of caramel malt and hops; descent balance, although the hops seemed a bit weak for an IIPA. Bitter finish.
