Hazy orangish-amber. The nose was full of hops. The mouthfeel was medium with a grassy hops flavor on the tongue. The finish was definitely hoppy with a good malt backbone. Good drinkability.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
From notes. First reviewed 8/2/2011. Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a tulip.
Out of the bottle, Hop juice pours a dark, murky orange amber color. A thick, creamy white head with multi-sized bubbles give this a regal appearance.
A good amount of citrus and pine hop aroma to go along with a medium malt sweetness. Caramelized grapefruit and sticky pine are the primary
This is fairly sweet up at the beginning, with a lot of caramel flavors. Fairly quickly the flavor turns to grapefruit and assorted citrus, with some pine and spruce toward the end. A lingering general bitterness extends from the end of the sip into the aftertaste.
The body is light to medium, with a soft residual hop residue. The sensation of hops cutting through the other flavors to create a strong hop bite simply was not there. Above average creamy carbonation.
This was a little disappointing. The intense malt sweetness could be confused for balance, but it really seemed overly simple and lacking in the hop department.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This IIPA pours a cloudy orange with a white head. Unfortunately, it is absolutely dominated by malt, both in scent and flavor. It was a bit cloying in this respect and somewhat sticky. I was very disappointed by this one.

Bottle poured into a pint glass is light amber with a thin off white head. Aromas of pine and grapefruit and a bit musty. Taste is resinous pine with a heavy handed malty mix to make this drinkable. Very hoppy and bitter with pine and citrus all over the place. Sweet with the heavy malt backbone. Palate is full body leaves nice lacing. Well done powerful DIPA.

Lots of nice hop aroma on the noise. I immediately notice how I dont taste the normal aggressiveness in this double ipa. The hops or abv does not have a huge bite which makes this nice and session-able for this style of beer.
The mouthfeel is also quite nice as its not a thick as most other DIPAs. Nice but not thin.
Overall, I like this. Its a nice change of pace for this style. Love the bottle artwork as well.

22oz bottle in a shaker. Pours deep amber with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma strong of citrusy hops and caramel malts with a little bit of nuts. Flavor a very nice blend, with enough malts to balance it. Smooth texture. A really good beer.
