Bottle. Clean, full amber in glass. Aroma of orange, caramel and pine. Rich smelling. Taste has a pronounced malt backbone with some bitter citric hops over top. Sweet throughout, even with the hops pulling the other way. Alright, but not a go to.

I donít rate my beers, but had to bust out one for this gem of a caramel bomb. I take great umbrage with u people rating this crap so high. Nose is of delicious caramels and a bit of orange marmalade. Nice deep copper/amber appearance w a quickly fading head. From there, bollox. Caramel and orange blahhhhhhhh. This is yet another caramel nasty bomb of a dipa. Screw u people who rated this up to a 98. My cat knows to bitter a dipa better than this.

On tap poured into a sampler glass. The aromas start off with a bit of orange soda, sugar, and a bright cleanser note. This eventually settles to more of a grapefruit, caramel, bread crust, and marmalade combination. It pours a nice, clear orange with a light, creamy white head. A thick ring is retained with a nearly full surface. It leaves behind a dense, micro bubble sheet lace. Itís highly bitter with a medium sweetness. Thereís lots of soft carbonation to go along with the thick texture and full body. It finishes with notes of resin, burnt caramel, bitter citrus and pine. The aftertaste is big and lingering with a toast and dry spice character.

Bottle from Tipples. Lot 1554 but no bottle date. Pours a deep dark orange red color with a beautifully creamy two finger off white head. Aroma is floral hop notes, rich bready malts, crisp and grassy. Flavor is big time caramel malts here, light fruity and floral hop notes, and a dry floral finish. Medium plus mouthfeel, strong bitterness, and medium plus carbonation. The malts really dominate here and it comes off like a very solid American style barleywine than a hoppy DIPA. No bottle date but I assume this is fresh based on the source of the bottle. In any case solid beer, but go in thinking the other end of the DIPA spectrum from the likes of Heady Topper or even Enjoy By.

Neither as tongue-ruining nor uniquely bitter as I expected by a 100 IBU pale. It was smooth for this level of hops which I appreciate and am in slight awe of. Fruity finish. Not unique nor deep enough for perfection but still an "A-" On tap. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Stine (1761) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUL 17, 2014
UPDATED: JUL 19, 2014 Deep bronze colored pour with ample foam; toffee, toasted oak, strawberry, grapefruit and pine in a classic, heavy aroma. The flavor is full of toffee and woodsiness; firmly sweet and aggressively bitter, with a highly resinous texture. Yet, the body is somewhat quaffable and not entirely overwhelming. Lasting, bitter and oily finish.

Drinking this conjures a weird flashback to my early memories of this style - to the late nineties and early aughts examples that were just packed with crystal malt sweetness and overwrought by design. Many of these, including this one, are really quite alright; their bold and brutish flavor was a major checkpoint in craft beer history. But given how the style has developed, there isnít a reason to seek out this bullying flavor anymore.

Usual pine/resin - carmel malt and bitterness, I wish it were more pronounced. Nice amber in the glass. Expected more hop bitterness due to the abv. Good attempt, as imperials become the norm, this one will be considered average in the long run.

Pours Amber with a long lasting ivory head. Good lacing. Malt, citrus, pine, orange peel aromas. Sweet malty flavor with a strong hoppy bitterness. Resin, pine, citrus, and floral notes. Smooth creamy mouthfeel. Low carbonation. The finish is dry. Good double IPA.
