HopsOrDie (687), New Lenox, Illinois, USA Mar 30, 2005 Hazy orange pour with a nice lacing white head. Pine and grassy hop packed aroma. Hop flavor up front with an alcoholic kick to it. Overall flavor dominated by backend hop bitterness.
soccer290 (125), Highland Park, Illinois, USA Jun 28, 2009 22 oz bottle. Had 2B Heavy Handed, thought it was Ok (not great, but not horrible) and saw this, thinking it may be better since I like I-IPA’s more. Pours a reddish copper color with a small off-white head that dies slowly. Smells of hops, citrus, a little malt, and possibly some pine. A little more impressive than I was expecting in aroma. Tastes of hops and a fair bit of malt, with the pine and citrus disappearing. Kinda unfortunate, as I was hoping for more of a citrus taste to it. Goes down fairly smoothly, though it is a little big on the IBU scale, I will give it that, but it is unnecssarily so. Not the best I-IPA I’ve had, and for the price, I’d rather a Hopslam (my fav for the price, though if price isn’t an issue, Dreadnaught is tied with it. phukktifano (159), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jun 23, 2009 Dark copper with a hoppy pine aroma with a flavor of citrus, fruit and a bitter finish. tmoreau (302), Lombard, Illinois, USA Jun 19, 2009 Snifter served at the Tap House. Poured a dark copper amber with a "diminishing to a light film" white head and modest lacing. The aroma was strong notes of citrus and pine with some sweetness of fresh fruit and malt. The flavor added a bit of caramel and a potent, "lasting to finish" hop bitterness. Full body in it’s flavor and appearance. Good stuff! esjaygee (1260), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Jun 18, 2009 Shared this bomber of two brothers with my two brothers. Excited for this one, but in the end a little let down since it wasn’t a stellar example of the style. Reddish amber with a medium tan head. Aroma trumps the flavor as the grapefruit and citrus hops come across in a nice way here and are balanced out by some sweet caramel malt. But still, I’m spoiled and I wanted it bolder. It says "double" and it was more akin to "single". Hops come across in the flavor but a bit less prevalent. Some citrus and grapefruit balanced out by the caramel again. Alcohol noticeable a touch, but nothing overpowering. A bit of corn stalk mixes in with it and it finishes up a moderate Iceman82 (22), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 18, 2009 Pours a caramel brown....decent head.....really nice lacing. Aroma is hops, hops and more hops!!! Tastes of caramel malt, citrus, pine, bitter orange peel. Its like smearing hop resin all over your tongue. Light carbonation... long, bittering finish. deyholla (185), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 18, 2009 Cask. Poured a reddish amber with a near white head. Aroma was full of hops, giving it an almost wooden aroma. Flavor is dominated by hops throughout, quite bitter. TheBeerGod (3026), Newport News, Virginia, USA Jun 13, 2009 Bottle courtesy of dkachur from Whole Foods - Bowery at the 8th Richmond Gathering. Hazy copper pour. Aroma is citrus juice, hop resins, orange peel and pine with caramel notes. Taste is hoppy with citrus, pine chewy caramel, sweet malt and orange peel. Body is medium, oily/resinous and slightly sticky. Soft carbonation. Ends with more sweet malt, caramel, citrus fruits, pine and hop resins. Nice! pantanap (1158), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 12, 2009 on tap at the TB Hop Juice Release... pours a medium caramem amber bwon with a thin soapy barely off-white head... caramel malt aroma with a strong citrusy hop component... flavors had a good dose of sharp citrus hop with a tame bitterness. pretty well-balanced out with an adequate caramel malt backbone. medium carbonation and drinkable. a lot better than what i was expecting.
