MoDog (909), Griffith, Indiana, USA Mar 9, 2008 Poured from a 22oz bomber and served in a snifter. This beer poured an extremely dark brown with a quickly fading head of tan foam. Not much lace. The aroma of the beer was made up of sweet, rich chocolate, strong espresso and coffee, and burnt malt. The flavor included roasted malt with some light notes of coffee and chocolate. Pretty one dimensional. No real character or depth. The mouthfeel was full-bodied with minimal carbonation. This beer started out on the right track with a nice pour and aroma, but the flavor was a big letdown. kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Feb 18, 2008 Draught at the new Tap Room. Opaque black with a big brown head. Aroma was malty, toast, not overpowering. Good, chocolatey roast malt and complimentary sweetness. A little carb tingle on the tongue. Definitely a balanced drinkable Imperial Stout but no world beater. troyc (1173), Lubbock, Texas, USA Feb 17, 2008 (Tap) Pours a inky black color with a small brown head. Aroma of roasted grains and coffee. Taste includes some burnt toffee, caramel, and creamy latte notes. Creamy mouthfeel and light vanilla in the finish. Moderate carbonation and well disguised alcohol content. This was an really good beer... perhaps not as strong/overpowering as many imperial stouts are, but more drinkable and enjoyable in my book. gunhaver (1024), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 16, 2008 Updated: Jun 4, 2008Bottle. Pours darker than night, with some creamy tan head. Some wet lacing on the glass. Aroma is big time roasted dark chocolate, caramel, toffee. Flavor is pretty striking, too. Dark chocolate, roasted malts, espresso. Quite enjoyable. Creamy body, with a bitter finish. Surprisingly drinkable. Underrated methinks. hombrepalo (745), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 15, 2008 On tap at small bar. Dark roasty malt aroma. Poured a dark usual stout color with slim dark tanned head. Taste is of cocoa, malts and some hops, not as thick as other stouts. Smooth palate, nice finish, unnoticable alcohol. Not a stout drinker, but this was good. MI2CA (1260), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Feb 14, 2008 Sample Hotshots Feb Indy tasting - Aroma is mellow burnt chocolate malt and ash. Pours black with a small head and decent lacing. Flavor is a bit stronger with the chocolate stepping up. Some roasted dark coffee also makes an appearance. Palate is dry and even a little tart. Last beer of the night may effect this ones rating as we had some top tier RIS’s before it. Re-rate eventually. NobleSquirrel (1100), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 8, 2008 This one surprised me. On tap at Kuma’s in Chicago. Very roasty, though not overly tanninized, which is a down side for me. The bitterness of the hops certainly outweighed the bitterness of the wort itself. This was very tasty and I’d certainly indulge again. Awesome.... doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Feb 2, 2008 22oz bomber, thanks to Headbanger. Pours black with dark brwon highlights. Moderate, creamy brown head. Smells of roasty toasty malts and some black coffee. Tastes of roasted malts and some coffee maybe some dark chocolate. Medium body with good carbonation. Solid beer.
