Louipa (121), USA Dec 10, 2006 I’m gonna have to disagree with a number of people here. I liked this beer alot. It wasn’t as thick as most Imps but to me it was kinda like Victory Storm King lite, if there was such a thing. I found it easy to drink and it smelled like raisins. I was eating some pretzels and drank a whole 22oz pretty quick. adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 21, 2006 22 oz bomber. Pours a malty black color with a small beige head that quickly disappears. Aroma is of slightly smoked roasted malt with a hint of coffee beans. Flavor is sweet malt with hints of roasted coffee and smoke. Lacking rich flavor for an imperial stout. Seems more like a regular stout to me. Below average for an imperial stout. jeffc666 (1886), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Nov 17, 2006 Dark light brown head. The aroma is similar to a milk stout. Sweet lactic with some molasses. Ho hum. The flavor is all roasted malt with some sweetness coming in late but it never develops any of the complex chocolateliness that I like from an IS. Very thin bodied for the style, almost watery. An entirely forgettable Imperial Stout in a sea of forgettable Imperial Stouts. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Nov 5, 2006 Bomber. Aroma: Fair amount of sweet roasted malt aroma with some coffee. Light cocoa. A touch of roasted nuts. Appearance: Pours an oily black. Dark tan head was full and creamy with nice retention. Good lacing. Flavor: Roasted malt and coffee. Sweetness from malt and chocolate flavor seem to come together. A touch of cereal grains. Caramel. Very light smoke. Palate: Medium-full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Slight astringency noted. Pleasant alcohol warmth in back of mouth. Overall: Not bad, but when compared to some of the great Impy Stouts out there, just doesn’t hold up. Biggest complaint is the wimpy mouthfeel. No chewiness or thickness I would expect from the style. Worth a try, but far from my favorite. edfitz (114), Toledo, Ohio, USA Oct 13, 2006 Oil black with very little head. Chocolate aroma. Taste of roasted malts, not overpowering, and actually a little thin. A slight taste of coffee at the finish. Reminds me more of a strong porter than an imperial stout. beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Oct 2, 2006 22oz bomber - Pours brown, sits black. Slim, compactly fluffy capping of tanned foam sits atop briefly. Very minimal lacing in a few spots.
Aroma of mild milk chocolate with a slight graham cracker crusted roastyness/burntness.
Taste is alot like what the aroma leads to with a moderate amount of cookie/cake like milk chocolate. Slippery in the front, partially oily enriched with a richer/fuller backend. Tenderly sweetened by a bit with a centered oatyness and soft chocolate malting. Notes akin to some peppery spice, burntish coffee or cake edges. Quite mild overall on the flavor palate though. Keeps smooth and solid but nothing to complexing. Reminds more of an Oatmeal fashioned type stout then anything.
Feel is smooth and supple with a bit of oilyness to its body. Seemingly rounded within a medium body and a softer carbonation. Finishes lightly spiced and feathery hopped with a faint chocolate drify of soft dryness.
A moderately paced drinkin’ stout. Not super complex nor impactful as most Impy Stouts. but does the job just fine for when in the mood for something on the darker side. Lubiere (4464), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Sep 23, 2006 Deep dark stout with a thin light moka head. Sweet lactic coffee aroma with light chocolate, and nutty notes, roasted. In mouth, a good roasted coffee malt with lactic points, and burned toasts, alcohol not very present. Medium bodied. Bought in Chicago in Nov. 2005. waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA Sep 22, 2006 bottle. dark pour with creamy tan head. sour malts, big hops, coffee, mild chocolate aroma. very hoppy, sour, coffee, roasted malts as well, very mild sweet chocolatel. tastes incomplete. bitter cheap coffee finish.
