Commercial Description:
This deep dark delight harkens back to the days when such brews were shipped to the Imperial Court of Russia. With a firm roasty maltiness balanced against a generous helping of hops, Northwind has what it takes to stand up to the worst its namesake can dish out! Enjoy it by a roaring fire. Formerly called Iditarod Imperial Stout.

Bottle on 9/9/06. Opaque black/brown pour supports a lasting brown head. Aroma of coffee and dark roasted malts. Medium body, light carbonation. Flavor is predominately bitter with contributions from dark malts as well as citrus hops. Bitter finish. A drinkable good Impy Stout.

Received from BeerSwap 2.0. Poured into a snifter. Opaque black with ample ligh brown head. Aroma is sweet milk chocolate with some coffee notes. Taste has a Hershey’s Syrup quality. I like it. Sweet, smokey, bitter finish. Light on the palate. Not what we normally equate to imperial, but I’ll give this on a pass. I like it.

(22oz bottle) Small tan head atop brown-black body. Aroma is medium sweet, chocolate, coffee, roast. Taste is moderately sweet, chocolate, coffee, roast, some smoke, caramel, earthy. Alcohol is remarkably masked. Creamy medium-full body, light syrup, quite drinkable for the style. Seems like a summery IS, if such a thing exists.

Completely black pour, little to no brownish head. Nice roasted chocolate, malty aroma. Very nice coffee flavor in this beer. Very smooth, a bit thinner then an imperial should be. Don’t get me wrong, this is not thin, but not as full bodied as it should be. Still a very good beer.

Bottle poured black with a thick, creamy head. Aroma was roasty chocolate with a slight metalic note. Flavor was roasty chocolate and coffee with a rather thin body.

22 oz. bottle. Aroma was sweet raosty malts. Black body with dark tan head. Had a good roasty malt flavor with some mild sweetness. Body had a rich creamy feel also. Smooth on palate with a roasty aftertaste. Enjoy by roaring fire? Well almost was enjoyed on the padio by the pool in 114 degree outside temp.

pours black with very little light tan head. aroma is full of roasted malt, cashews, peanuts, and molasses. The flavor is heavy on the molasses and roasted malt, with a touch of alfalfa sprouts and lots of nutty flavors as well. the obvious chocolate, dark roast coffee, and some acidity accompany these flavors.
