| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 26, 2004 Deep balck, oily. Almost no head--what is there is dark tan. Roast malt aroma. Flavor is mostly coffee with some soy-sauce notes. A bit light in the body for an imperial stout. steview (901), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jun 16, 2004 duvel tulip glass: aroma of roastiness... chocolate and coffee. appearance of near midnight topped with a tight and tan cloud called "head." the head quickly leaves itself as a pretty ring and there's barely any lacing. it looks alright. the beer looks purdy thick. it feels like it isn’t. hmm, this shouldn’t be imperial. it tastes as it smells... roasty, chocolately... it feels dry and tastes a little sweet, it’s rich and not quite smooth, and well it’s good. a bit thin indeed; watery. it just doesn’t deserve to be called imperial. egh, i like it and think it's good. however, i expected a LOT more. this beer, personally, first reminded me of Anchor's Porter. a porter comparable to an imperial stout? no. aracauna (2374), Georgia, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 16, 2004 Dark brown but with plenty of light coming through at the edges. There’s virtually no head and what does form fades quickly. The aroma is roast, raspberries and nuts. The flavor adds a bit of chocolate and nougat to that combination. Still, this is a very light Imperial Stout. It’d be a decent sweet stout, but would still be a bit thin. howie (549), DeForest, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jun 3, 2004 Roasty, bitter. Lacking fruitiness, sweet maltiness, and hop aroma. Somewhat light palate, spritzy carbonation. Even objectively (disregarding style), this fails to impress me at all. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 28, 2004 Bottle pours deep brown, almost black, with tons of yeast flakes at the bottom, mediocre tannish head, which quickly dissipates. Aroma is dry, chalk like, and of bittersweet chocolate. Very reminiscent of Rogue Chocolate Stout in its aroma. However, flavor is a different story. No real chocolate detected. Slight roasted malt and soy make up the initial flavor. Slight pine as well, but its very minor. Finishes somewhat crisp, initial flavors slowly fading. Nothing wrong with this one, just not very robust. Body and mouthfeel are so-so, but it could use some more umph! Thanks goes out to MarkR for the trade!

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 26, 2004 Updated: May 27, 2004Pours a dark black with floating yeast. Thin diminishing tan head. Sweet roasted aroma with hints of coffee. Thick palate but thinner than most imperial stouts. Roasted and slightly acidic flavor. Some backend bitterness, but this seems closer to a normal stout than an imperial. As it warms, a smokey flavor comes through. More complex than most have given credit to. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 1, 2004 Pours an oily black with a very thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malty and mildly sour. Body is semi-sweet, decently complex and tart, with a smooth lightly roasted finish. Not quite as balanced as it could be, but a decent imperial. Crash (448), Macomb, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 30, 2004 Brown color and dirty look. It had a little head but, before I could write it down it was gone. Slight coffee smell but, no enough to kill it for me.
