got my nose a little too close when smelling this beer. Beer up the nose is not fun. Nothing too special baout this stout. It's tasty, but I've had better.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown color with malty sweet coffee aroma. Flavor is nice and smooth without a strong chocolate taste. Not as strong as most imperial stouts.Finishes with some coffee flavors and slightly bitter.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks to Darkover for hooking me up. Pours a deep dark black with a thin and quickly disappearing brown head. Slow, creeping carbonation up the sides of the glass and thin lacing. The aroma is bitter roasted coffee with a bit of malt. Not as rich as most Imperial Stouts, and not quite as flavorful either. There is a nice coffee flavor but not much malt to counterbalance. There is a small amount of chocolate in the flavor as well. The finish is roasted coffee. On the Stout scale this is pretty good but on the Imperial Stout scale it falls short. Still not a bad brew though.

black-brown body with no head or lace. malty nose with hints of toasted sweetness. roasted coffee flavor with malt and chocolate mixed in. finish has a suggestion of a vanilla to the taste. there is also a bit of a burnt, bitter finish.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark, dark brown body with a thin, tan head. Some lacing.
Coffee, chocolate and roadted malt dominates the aroma.
Big roast and chocolate malt flavor. Pleasent bitterness. Alcohol gives to a slightly sour/astringent flavor.
Full bodied, thick and smooth. Not bad.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
yes, it appears formidable. as solid black as one of those old bell system rotary phones-- with a nutmeg colored froth of generous foam. but just a whiff shows that it's an imposter in the imperial camp: certainly no cornucopia of fortified fruits, no pregnant hops nor hulking liquers to delight or bemuse. just burnt coffee, straw hat, oil-drenched lawn mower air filter and cottage cheese on the 'danger' side of the freshness date. burnt nail bitterness erases any overtures of sweetness, leaving the smoking liability of a raton furniture fire that was extinguished by all the day-old coffee poured out by every truck stop diner along the new jersey turnpike on a damp summer wednesday with an ozone alert. me no likey.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle pours black and viscous with little tan head. The aroma is lactic acid, coffee, and chocolate. The flavor is much the same as the aroma - not too much in the hop department, but enough to provide balance. The palate is pretty rich. Overall, this is OK, but a bit too lactic.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Black with a small disapearing brown head. Aroma of roast and chocolate. Very malty with roast and coffee flavors. Smooth and very drinkable. More of a regular stout than an imperial.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
More lactic quality than the New Glarus Imperial Stout. Roasted with a lingering coffee-milk flavor. Good balance in the palate--carbonation with bite. Still, it isn't as thick as it might be. (Sampled at Southern Ratebeer Gathering, Austin, TX, December 6, 2003)

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Opaque black, big tan head. Some yummy cherries/strawberries in the aroma and flavor. Rich chocolate, thick mouthfeel. Calorie-riffic. An excellent example of the style, I'm surprised it isn't rated higher.
