Commercial Description:
This deep dark delight harkens back to the days when such brews were shipped to the Imperial Court of Russia. With a firm roasty maltiness balanced against a generous helping of hops, Northwind has what it takes to stand up to the worst its namesake can dish out! Enjoy it by a roaring fire. Formerly called Iditarod Imperial Stout.

12oz. bottle. Pours super dark brown, small tan head. Chocolate and malts in the nose, dark fruit and chocolate across the palate. Nice and roasty, alcohol is hidden well. Great brew.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark brown color with a medium tan head. The aroma is dark roasted malt and light chocolate. The flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, and some hints of coffee. The finish is on the dry side. Medium bodied and smooth. This is decent, but nothing special stands out.

(bottle - 12 oz) Dark black pour with a thin and creamy tan head. Aroma is light but the hints of roasted malts and coffee are very apparent. Not much else that I could tell and I had my nose in the glass. Flavor is very large and complex with lots of coffee, roasted malts, cream, vanilla, and cocoa. A bit watery in the body but very roasty. Not a bad stout.

12 oz bottle. Very dark black beer with a creamy tan head. Aroma is fairly subtle. Heavy roasted malts present themselves in a fairly savoury/leathery base. Dark chocolate, licorice and a bit of cocoa. Lingering roastiness, light vanilla and milk chocolate. It’s not really bad, per se... but it’s not all that good either.

Bottle: Dark pour, near opaque with a bubbly tan head. The aroma is chocolaty, with notes of roasted barley, a touch of smoke and a meaty spicy note. Light fluffy feel. Doesn’t feel like an Imperial. Smooth flavor with mild roast and chocolate character without being very sweet. There’s a light peppery note on the back. Simple, but very drinkable with no flaws. Just doesn’t seem like an Imperial.

Draught. Pours opaque black, with a thin light brown cap. Nose is quite roasty - espresso and coffee, though light. Dry. taste is strong again on the roasty side of things - dry espresso with hints of underlying cocoa, though coffee is clearly in the starring role.. Slight acidity. Close to how I would define an imperial dry stout. Highly drinkable for the style. Mouthfeel is full bodied with a soft but dry champagne-like carbonation.

Bottle, pours a not quite opaque, black body with creamy brown head. Aroma of lightly roasted malts and coffee with hints of dark chocolate and hops. Flavor is mainly heavily roasted malts and cocoa with notes of bitter coffee. Medium bodied; not as thick as most imperial stouts. Slightly oily mouthfeel. Bitter coffee and roasted malt finish. There is nothing too interesting here in a catagory filled with impressive beers. The roasted malts tend to dominate after a few drinks.

bottle. Pours black with a tan head and adequate lacing. Aroma is heavily roasted malt, coffee, must, maybe a hint of hops, but really nothing else. The taste is light chocolate, dry cocoa, heavy roasted malt, with a light bitter finish. There is also a bit of chalkiness to the finish as well. The mouthfeel was medium. This was just an average imperial stout that was overly roasted and very, very simple.
