This deep dark delight harkens back to the days when such brews were shipped to the Imperial Court of Russia. With a firm roasty maltiness balanced against a generous helping of hops, Northwind has what it takes to stand up to the worst its namesake can dish out! Enjoy it by a roaring fire. Formerly called Iditarod Imperial Stout.

Not quite as strong as some Imperial Stouts, at 7 percent alcohol by vol., ,but still a very tasty stout. The most dominant malt flavor is that of chocolate malt. This stout isn’t very roasty and tends toward being sweet. It is relatively big bodied, but not huge.Better than I recall from about a year ago, but still a little thin for what I like in this style of beer.

Pours a deep brownish black from the bottle with thin ring of bubbly tan head that leaves light lace. Aroma of big roasted malts and soy earth. Taste follows, sweet on top of the earth and roast. Meh, not bad, booze well hidden but nothing special.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2015 A touch under-stated for an imperial stout in 2015, this would have been right at home in 1995. Caramel nose hints at roast, flavor sweet and roasty wth a full caramel presence, sweet full bodied finish, lingering thoughts of coffee. A very simple and straightforward strong stout. You want huge and complex, look elsewhere.

Average imperial stout. Two brothers is average at best. Malty and slightly chocolatey start. Bitter and malty finish. Slightly chocolately. Had at home. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours very dark with a thin chocolate head. Moderate roast. Light hops. Drinkable, but not my favorite imperial stout.

Fresh, roasted aroma -- slightly sweet. Good label on a longneck. Dark, pitchy beer with a sturdy light tan head. Flavor is boring and a little creosotic. Mouthfeel is starchy/frothy, body is slightly heavy, overall it’s a little acidic. Wow, I was disappointed with this one. New Leaf Market.

The beer has hints of coffee, but it’s a bit rough compared to most imperial stouts I’ve had. very drinkable but could be more smooth. Black and tan head aroma is of roast coffee.

Mild aroma of light roast , slight chocolate, some mineral/ tinnyness. Taste is mild herbal/perfumey, light berry, diet cola, diet cola in finish as it gets prgressivly worse, glad I dindt buy a sixer of this, easy drinkability but has a diety perfumey like taste. Clove sweetness. Herbal bitter. This kinda sucks for an imperial stout. Bad aftertaste.

12 oz bottle served in a tulip. The beer pours a midnight black with a somewhat thick tan head that shrinks down and leaves nice lacing. Really good looking beer. Aroma is roasted barley, coffee, cocoa, and some woody smells. It is a very roasty smelling beer. Taste is mostly dark roasted coffee and cocoa. It takes on a dark chocolate with cream flavor as it warms up and is a pretty nice sipper. Alcohol is really not visible at all and the beer remains sticky and clings to your mouth. I could have a few of these, pretty nice.
