2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Deep brown with a thin tan head. Has smokey, licorice aroma, much lighter on the coffee than expected, and light on the scent in general. Flavor is light sweet to light bitter finish. The beer is more watery than it looked when pouring. I had higher hopes on account of liking other beers from two brothers and dark coffee beers, but this one is just okay.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
The beer pours basically black with a medium sized tan head with no real lace. The head doesn’t stick around too long really.
The aroma is plenty of chocolate and coffee, the beer is sweet smelling. For the most part it smells like rich dark chocolate and a little bit like coffee, it’s a pretty inviting bouquet.
The flavor is no where near as sweet as the aroma would have us believe. The coffee flavor is dominant, and it tastes like fancied coffee for sure. The dark chocolate character is strong in the flavor as well and between that and the coffee the bitterness level on the beer is very pleasant. The dark fruit character is mild and some light toffee shows through as it warms/opens up/whatever. I had no clue that this was as strong as it is, pretty much drinks like a normal porter. The alcohol is very well concealed.
The palate is a tad thin but carried well across the palate by the low carbonation.

Milk choclate and coffee in the taste, a little booze and roasted malt.
Higher end of medium bodied, a little over carbonated, sweet finish.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Roasted malts, slight hop aroma. Draft, little to no head, what was there was off white tan. The beer is surprisingly light body. Good coffee porter, but too light body.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Lakeview Liquors. A well integrated coffee oriented beer even for a non coffee drinker. Good roasted malt, choice and use of chocolate with an anise kiss. Above average mouthfeel, great drinkability.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured from a bomber into a tulip glass. Pours a dark brown with a quickly diminishing head of light brown foam. Aromas consist of some coffee, soy sauce, sweet malt, and some light chocolate. Taste is a strong hearty sweetness with a roasty character that is just odd. Although the roasty notes should be good here, they seem out of place. Can’t get into this one.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating but this was pretty recent(15th anniversary bottling). Pours pitch black color with a dense 1-2 finger tan head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some good lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of chocolate, coffee beans, roasted malt, caramel, toast, biscuit, molasses, light herbal, and light nuttiness. Pretty nice and balanced aromas; but are not nearly as strong as I was expecting. Taste of milk chocolate, roasted malt, biscuit, toast, caramel, nuttiness, coffee, molasses, and herbal spiciness. Light spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, biscuit, molasses, nuttiness, toast, coffee, and herbal on the finish for a good bit. Nice robust and balanced flavor profile with minimal cloying sweetness; but not nearly as much coffee flavor as I was expecting. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good imperial porter. Nice robust flavor and balance; and very easy to drink. Nowhere near worthy of being called a coffee porter; but still a very enjoyable beer.
