2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured a dark amber color with a small foamy white head that faded and left no lacing. The aroma was a bit sweet and tangy with hints of pine and grape soda. The flavor was tangy with notes of fruity hops, pine, grape soda, a hint of bread and a touch of caramel. No oaky presence at all. Long sweet grape soda and fruity hop finish. Medium body. Odd and disappointing.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: pours a yellow-gold ale with near excellent clarity (hint of haziness). single finger soap sud head falls to shin sheet of the same. Rare and spotty lacing.
S: Citrus, grapefruit, oak, metallic (copper). Not a particularly good smeller, but not bad either.
T: The oak on this is a bit too strong. Sweet ale with domineering citrus hopping and hints of pine and resin. The sweetness is persistent.
M: Medium to high body with medium to high carb. Not impressed. Too much carb for this beer.
O: Well done, not the finest oaked IPA I’ve had, but quite drinkable. I would likely pick up Great Divide’s oaked IPA before this one side by side.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Golden color. Full frothy head. Floral hop aroma along with caramel like matinees. Light bitterness. Honey notes, pine, with floral hops. Hard to pick out the oak aging. It’s subtle. Overall a good tasting beer. Balanced.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap. moderate aromas of caramel for the malt, pine and herbs for the hops, light soap for the yeast, with dried apricot and alcohol in the background. Head is average size, frothy, white with excellent lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is clear medium amber. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Palate is light to medium, slick with a moderately alcoholic finish. Maltier than most IPAs, drinkable but not a favorite.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a hazy dark orange with a half finger of white head. Aroma of dank earthy hops and grapefruit. Taste is light bitter. Earthy pine and grapefruit. Full bodied with a sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a long boozy finish. Not bad. Pretty good actually, but I’m thinking this may not be a fresh bottle.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle poured into Pint glass, Best By: 11/14/13
Standard pour, very little head that dissipated quickly. Lighter, less opaque copper, almost reddish. Almost no lacing to speak of.
Not terribly aromatic, smells mostly of grapefruit, perhaps even apples.
Very easily drinkable, light-medium body. Lightly fizzy. Some grapefruit, light hop bitterness, but tastes unignorably like apple juice. Not in a bad way, just very unexpected from an IPA. More malty sweetness than one would expect as well. Sweet finish that doesn’t linger.
There’s nothing wrong with it per se, but it doesn’t seem to stick to the style much. It’s an enjoyable drink, but if I were to drink this without having an idea what it was, I would think lightly alcoholic, semi-sweet, carbonated apple juice.
My first review, take with a fistful of salt.
