COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This hybrid beer is the fifth release in our series. Brewed in 2005 after a discussion about whether different yeast strains get along with each other during fermentation. We decided to try it out using only two types of each of he ingredients found in beer. We used two water sources, two barley types, two hop varieties, an ale yeast and a lager yeast.

22oz bottle. 2012 Retro release, 5 of 15. Thin white head. Clear golden color, with active-looking carbonation. Some lace. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this, "hybrid beer" is a very vague descriptor. But it’s appropriate - this really is a hybrid... It’s got a little bit bit of everything. First impression of the aroma is an odd combination of fruity citrus and estery pepper seasoning taste. Some clunky belgian funk, and some lagery skunk. A lot going on here, it’s not really bad, just a big mess. It’s hard to say that it works, but it’s definitely interesting. Good, thicker rows of lace. Carbonation is a fine texture, and very smooth. More dry finish. Good yeasty aftertaste. Light pepper, banana. Like a lot of yeastier beers, this gets better as it sits and warms up a bit, and the bubbles in the body calm down. Lightly bitter taste, some zest. Grassy hops. Not bad. Surprised that this has been pigeon-holed as a pale lager here... if that’s what we’re going to call it, this is definitely the most unusual pale lager I’ve ever had

Bomber to snifter (thanks Beerpig317). Looks good for the style; a mostly transparent orange with fluffy off-white head. Smells like a doughy and somewhat (pleasantly) skunky lager. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Not bad.

Sampled at esbls. Champagne looking. This is yeasty and grainy and grassy. Nicely done.

Bottle:   Straw colored, slight golden hue, pale haze, thin to moderate frothy white head, decent lacing.   Pale straw/haze on the nose, very pale fruitiness.   Faint fruitiness on the tongue, otherwise a very smooth hay/straw/grassy background.   Very clean, only a very touch musty on the backside.   Hops are light, and lack much bitterness.   One of the most well balanced Pale Lagers I have had in a long while.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Clean finish, just very slight straw/hay and fruitiness lingers.   So damn smooth!

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a typically carbonated transparent yellow colored body. The mild aroma was musty. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of hops and malt. An OK brew just nothing special.

Very little hops, standard lager style. Has the effervescence of a traditional lager/kolsch. Pale ale style after-taste. Worst of the retro releases thus far.

Palate gold pour with a 1 finger, soapy, bright white head. Aroma of light cereal grain, spicy and grassy hops, bready yeast. Flavor is a little weird up front, mineral notes and Brussels sprouts faintly come through, the vegetal note fades and doesn’t seem to come back on the next drink, strange, light toast, cereal, planty, spicy and herbal hops. Light bodied, crisp and clean feel throughout with a light to moderate strength, blanketing carbonation. the feel fits the flavor very well. Decent session beer, reminds me of a California Common. Seems closer to that, or a Premium Lager.

22 ounce bottle into pilsener glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy golden straw color with a nice 1 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some nice spotty lacing clings down the glass, with plenty of carbonation streaming up retaining the head. Aromas of apple, pear, lemon zest, herbal, grass, pepper, bread, and wheat. Nice aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of lemon zest, pear, orange, pepper, floral, bread, wheat, grass, and herbal spiciness. Fair amount of spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of light fruits, bread, wheat, grass, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a bit. Nice balance of flavors with decent complexity; no cloying flavors at all after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with a slight warming noticed well after the finish. Overall this is a nice pale lager hybrid beer. Nice amounts of flavor with good balance; and extremely smooth and crisp to drink. Really quite enjoyable stuff.

Pretty good beer. I grabbed a bomber of this at Old Chicago with the ’Rents to celebrate me moving home and getting a big boy job. Nothing super special here. I don’t like the fact that it’s considered a "pale lager" but I guess it doesn’t really fit any other catagory. Grab one if you get a chance, but give it a try on draft first. Interesting to say the least.

Aroma is fruit, malts and mild sweetness. The flavor is fruit, malts, and a dry and mildly bitter finish. This had a different flavor from what I was expecting, I’m guessing it had to do with the mix of lager and ale yeast, definitely different and an interesting flavor.
