Cask & Bottle Conditioned; Regular.
Its stark black and white appearance conceal luxurious notes of caramel and chocolate and at 4.5% ABV this is anything but austere. Cromwell would not approve!

Starts well but fades to a bit of a watery finish. Warm fireside type aroma and decent initial taste which doesn’t really develop into either a fat sweet body or a pleasingly dry toasty stout. A bit forgettable.

Cask (gravity) @ The 18th Reading Beer and Cider Festival 2012, Reading, Berkshire England.

Clear dark black colour with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, burnt, light soy sauce. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, burnt, roasted, dark roasted. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20120504]

Bottle at the ChrisO Flags of Many Nations Easter Tasting - London. A gift from the Cad. Pours brown with a fine, foamy head. Some tangy dark malts in here, ripened dark fruits, dark bread. Light bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. FInishes with some faint oily chocolate, a little earth, toasted bread. Pretty boring.

Gravity dispense at Ascot Racecourse Beer Festival 2012 - 06/10/12. Mid black with no head, looked still, flat and uninviting. Treacle toffee on the nose, dark malts, licqourice. Tastes of dates, licqourice, fruity tones, a little dark chocolate. Medium bodied leading to a dry finish. Average.

Cask@Reading Beer Festival 2012. Pitch black colour, small brown head. Aroma is roast, liquorice, some dark fruits and mild raisins as well. Flavour is rather similar. Pleasantly balanced, but a bit too fruity sweet to be my kind of stout.
