nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Feb 10, 2009 Bottle from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in DC. Excellent IPA. Nice amber color with a thick off-white head. Floral hoppy aroma, east coast style hops and slightly sweet malt on the flavor, slightly bitter finish. Well balanced. I’m starting to like these Bell’s guys and wish they were available out west. Wellestone (17), Andover, Minnesota, USA Feb 6, 2009 Gorgeous thick-foamed big-bubble head, slow carbonation, perfect hazy amber color. no lace to speak of. Flowery aroma overpowers any residual citrus. Creamy mouthfeel, full-bodied. Some sweetness to semi-balance the strong bitterness. More bitterness than the 09 Hopslam because of less malts. dreambrother (19), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA Jan 30, 2009 Pours a golden amber. Citrusy nose. Excellent disbursement of hops, malt, and citrus. My favorite IPA to date. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Jan 28, 2009 Bottle. Pours hazy orange amber with suspended particulate and good offwhite head and lacing. Nose of clean floral and citrus hops. Flavor has a balanced malty component at first, but is actually quite unbalanced, with a decided hop bitterness finishes this strong. Resiny hops affect the mouthfeel. Good for style. But not exactly what I look for in an IPA JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Jan 28, 2009 On tap at Gallo’s Tap Room. Pours a cloudy orange copper with a medium white head. Hoppy nose with grapefruit, orange and some malty sweetness. Bitter hop flavor with lots of citrus, some alcohol and a bitter finish. This was the beer that first got me interested in IPAs and it remains one of the best of the style. rhino44 (22), Afton, Virginia, USA Jan 26, 2009 beautiful hoppy/floral aroma. some hoppy grapefruit flavor. light on the palate, nice aftertaste. semi bitter finish lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jan 26, 2009 Bottle thanks to daknole. Batch 8409. Light caramel honey orange with two fingers of puffy white head. Great hop aroma, pine floral, light citrus. Taste is solid caramel malt backbone and a good citric bitter finish. BVery (446), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA Jan 26, 2009 TAP: at Bulldog Lowertown (St. Paul, MN) on 1.25.09. Gold, translucent pour, light head. Slightly lighter in color than Bells HopSlam. Floral hop aroma that was mild. Taste was sweet, very well-balanced hop that comes on late, and pine. A little less edgy than HopSlam.
