India Pale Ale style well suited for Hemingway-esque trips to the Upper Peninsula. American malts and enormous hop additions give this beer a crisp finish and incredible floral hop aroma.

The aroma will have you hooked. The ballance of flavor is perfect. The alcahol effect is unique

Had this on tap at Red’s Alehouse in North Liberty, IA. Pours a nice orange with a thick white head. Nice lacing around the glass, nice citrus hop aroma. The flavor is nice and hoppy with grapefruit and lemons. Amazing beer! Good stuff!

This was the beer that made me care about beer. I bought it blindly because it was named after the Hemingway story. I remember that moment of awakening, where, drinking it out of the bottle, sitting on the floor in my apartment, I tasted beer for the first time. I had the same awakening with coffee drinking a Metropolis Coffee (Chicago) Schweik’s blend while driving down Granville. Thank you Metropolis and thank you Bells.

On tap as usual, pours a very nice yellow-orange color with a nice white cream head. The smell is a strong citrus with a big hop presence. Taste is incredible citrus, lemon zest with a mild pine finish. Great lacing on the glass through the whole beer. The mouth fell is like BANG here are your hops, but yet so easy to drink. This is one of my favorite IPA’s if not my number one. I always find myself buying this keg after trying all the rest; this is the go to IPA!!!!!

On draft at Ryan Braun’s Lake Geneva. Pours a crystal clear light amber with virtually no head. Aroma is grapefruit, citrus, hops. Medium on the palate with medium carbonation. Flavor is very hoppy, citrus with a touch of malt. Well worth the high ratings.

Cloudy yellow, soapy but not spongy head. Low on the bitter scale, nice smooth IPA $1.79/120z @ Total Wine & More

Cloudy orangish/yellow color with brighter yellow highlights around the bottom. The head is very full and soapy looking. It’s off white with slight orange tinges. Well endowed head with tremendous retention and adequate lacing. Strong citrus aroma of orange and grapefruit. The hops also smell a bit floral. Smells clean and fresh and very well balanced. Smells like an orange juice cake or orange punch. Lovely. The taste is very similar to the smell with a plentiful amount of orange and grapefruit bitterness. The orange seems to pull through a bit more. Only a smidge of alcohol is detected. Again an orange punch type of flavor. Very good. Medium mouthfeel. Crisp and smooth. Mostly dry with a nice warming alcohol bite. As the beer warms, it becomes more watery. Does go down easy however. This is another beer that I can understand why people enjoy so much. It is very good and very easy to drink. I wish I had another one. I like how the orange is a bit more dominant over the grapefruit. Changes things up a bit. Most definitely worth a try if you haven’t sample it yet. I’m going to be sure to pick it up again sometime soon.

Bottle. Nice finger of pure white foamy head that leaves some nice residual lacing lines. Citrus-like hops with a piny finish in the aroma, completely devoid of sweetness, which is awesome. Not astringent or overkill in any respect, and this continues to the taste as well. Very light grapefruit, but a nice hop burn, and moves on to a sherbert-like finish that’s dry and soft at the same time. The balance that’s struck Dry, but not overly so, and soft body comes to mind. Between the aggressive hops, and the delicate finish is really astonishing. The only other brewer that does this is Shaun Hill. Squeezing in the hop greatness, but making a wonderfully drinkable and nuanced brew is actually kind of rare in my tasting experience. Awesome IPA, and certainly worth the hype. Glad to have regular access to it now.
