India Pale Ale style well suited for Hemingway-esque trips to the Upper Peninsula. American malts and enormous hop additions give this beer a crisp finish and incredible floral hop aroma.

A hazy golden orange color with a nice white head. Aroma is full of citrus and tropical fruit. The malt brings some of the sweetness of the hops out. Bitterness is average but well balanced. Great beer. Medium body. Great mouthfeel

Pours clear amber with a medium frothy white head. Aromas of peach, gooseberry, citrus, grass, pine, resin. Taste is a good balance between fruitiness, floral notes and malty sweet backbone. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation.

Appearance: clear pale amber, one finger of rocky off-white head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, patchy lacing. (3/5) Aroma: pine resin, pithy grapefruit, pale malt, light floral/herbal. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderately strong bitter. (8/10) Medium-full body, moderate carbonation, lingering bitter and slightly sticky finish. (4/5) My initial reaction was one of slight disappointment - I mean, come on, this beer is fairly legendary! Perhaps not to the extent of, say, Heady Topper, or Pliny, but it’s up there. When I uncapped it, though, the initial aroma was not as penetrating as I was expecting or hoping for. However, once I started drinking it, the flavours started to build and assert themselves. Not as citrusy as a lot of current A/IPAs, the resiny pine really dominates this. Finishes strong, with just enough malt sweetness to balance the moderately high bitterness. (And, to be fair, at three months old it’s entirely possible that the aromas have faded significantly. Might have to try it again if I can find a newer one.) (15/20)

Would like to taste Imperial version of this. Very nice, solid, balanced, but kinda lacks some hit. Decent maltiness, nice hop cocktail with grapefruit and orange prevail, some herbal aspect. Light sweetness with moderate bitterness. Very solid and enjoyable

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

More malt forward than I expected. Strong chewy toffee, with the fruit providing balance rather than bursting in at the outset. Light copper, with a big white head and lacing. Big body, neither oily nor creamy. When the hops come through they provide grapefruit, mango, resin and herbs. Tastes really good - aroma doesn’t stand out quite so much.

Fantastic aroma of oranges, citrus, grass and grape fruit. Pours golden with a tall solid head. Taste of blood orange and grape fruit. Feels quite thin and lively. Quite short. Lovely beer.
