Aromas of pine and grapefruit follow the blast of hops. Flavors are very much the same. Creamy, bitter goodness! Heathen (795), Riverside, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 7, 2008 THOUGHTS: Nice but not as great as some of the ratings make it seem. A little harsh for me. I like a little balance in my IPAs.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a light to medium orange with a small, slightly off-white head that mostly diminished, but left good lacing. The aroma was light caramel malt and moderate to heavy pine and citrus (grapefruit and more orange) hops. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and bitter, and moderately acidic; while the finish was moderately sweet and heavy to almost harshly bitter with a long duration. There was orange, grapefruit and pine hops with a little caramel malt. The medium body was sorta creamy with fizzy carbonation and a moderate astringent finish. ajm (917), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 7, 2008 My thanks to 2nd Lieutennant nbutler11 (retired) for the use of his bottle. Had this (not immediately, but soon) after Founder’s Harvest. Overall, I found this sharper and shallower. Aroma is sharp and hoppy. Standard amber color with persistant white head. Flavor is breadcrust, alcohol, dark melon rind, black pepper and an inhale of vanishing vanilla. After following the recent thread "Only 1 Beer for the Rest of Your Life" and seeing 6+ responses for this guy, I will admit to being disappointed at the outcome. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 6, 2008 The aroma is hoppy, citrus, a little pine. The appearance is a golden orange, cloudy with a big white head with excellent lacing. The initial flavor is bitter, hitting the back of the tongue, the flavor is a little pine, grass, herbs, outdoors. The finish is long bitter creeping to the middle of the tongue. Very good IPA. ubamartian (155), Watertown, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 6, 2008 Better than I expected. Aged in cellar for 3 months before trying. Aroma was great hoppy citrus and spice. Pours orange with a decent foam head. Great first taste, citrus really comes through. Not overly hoppy for this style either. The finish is a good mild bitter that isn’t over the top either. For someone who isn’t a big hophead, I could drink one of these a day and be happy. nbutler11 (741), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Brimming with hops, pepper, and perhaps even green apple. Mild lacing. Awfully bitter finish. Very average (if not disappointing for its rank) doubelknv3 (566), Illinois, USA

Golden-amber, clear, with lasting-frothy off-white head. Grapefruit, floral, biscuit and caramel flavour notes. Refreshing, dry, with medium bitter finish. AndyReynolds (281), Wilder, Kentucky, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 3, 2008 Updated: Aug 12, 2008I got a 1/2 gallon growler of the Two Hearted Ale. The pour was a clouded orange color with a 1/2 inch white head. The fragrance is strong with citrus fruits (oranges tend to stick out with a hint of grapefruit). Also, the glorious hop has a strong presence in the aroma. The taste is very balanced for a beer this hoppy. The citrus fruits really come out and it has a nice refreshing bitter finish that I love in an IPA. A great beer worthy of drinking daily.
