Commercial Description:
India Pale Ale style well suited for Hemingway-esque trips to the Upper Peninsula. American malts and enormous hop additions give this beer a crisp finish and incredible floral hop aroma.

Bottle courtesy of Daalamar: Poured a light orangey color ale with a huge foamy head with great retention. Aroma of floral hops is quiet enticing with a great semi-sweet malt base. Taste of crisp and citrus hops are well mixed with a nice solid sweet malt based. Carbonation is lively and body is about average. Overall a really good example and enjoyable take on the style thought a bit overrated in my opinion.

Poured an orange color with a huge pillowy head and great lacing. Took three pours to get it in, while waiting for the head to settle. Sedimentation came out on the last pour(s) and remained separated out, like a black and tan: two phase beer, cloudy sedimentation cloud on top. The aroma was nice, hoppy, some pine, some citrus. The flavor was strongly hopped, some bitter malts underneath, including caramel. Some bitter citrus rinds and some pine hops. The mouthfeel was typical for the style with a fairly heavy body.

The orange gold body of this elixir is topped by a thick, lasting head with lots of lacing left behind. The aroma is sweet and citrusy (grapefruit and lemon) from hops with piney notes and a good malty balance. The flavor is slightly sweet yet slightly bitter and hoppy with notes of citrus and pine and a good malty sweetness for balance. The finish is bitter and hoppy. Medium bodied, slightly dry and relatively smooth.

Re-rate December 2007. Whoa man, this one is way better on draft! I’ve had the pleasure of drinking this one from the bottle, a regular keg, and a 5L home mini-keg, and the draft format works alot better with this beer. The orange hops really "pop" and taste much fresher from the tap. Likewise, the pour imparts a larger, fuller head, more intricate lacing, and a smoother, less sticky palate. I’m beginning to think I might have had a bad bottle for the first go round. Awesome IPA.

Original rating August 2007. Bottle at Redlight Redlight. Courtesy boboski. The body is a cloudy orange-amber color. It looks rather syrupy, with thick legs like a desert wine would have. Not much of a head, just a thin wispy film with a pure white buildup around the rim of the glass. The aroma is obviously hoppy and piney, but there is plenty of caramel and toffee malt to balance it out. The flavor has alot of orange in it, with grapefruit and pine resin both playing prominent roles. There is obviously a high sugar content, as the palate is quite thick and sticky. A little too sticky in my opinion. A very nice IPA, but a little less sugary malts would make it ideal.

12oz bottle, thanks to holdenn for boot legging this into chicago. pours dense orange with a nice glow and solid white head. nose is soft with citrusy hops, not a big hop aroma. taste is nicely balanced hops but nothing over the top and seems to not go for a the west coast PNW hop bomb. perhaps a hoppier english style IPA. this beer is very drinkable and no real flaws come to mind.3.9.

batch 8220. I’m really digging this, seems very fresh yet smooth and in amazing balance. very orangey, berry, citrusy. I could go for a fresh bottle of this anytime.

Pours a mildy hazy, yellow-gold. small to medium head. Aroma of grapefruit, a general citrus, and some floral notes. Taste was of grapefruit, with a really good floral component. Only small trace of malt. Smooth, great mouthfeel. Very refreshing.

Poured a little cloudy orangey golden with a fluffy white head...all hops in the nose...grapefruit, orange, lemon, resin...fantastic taste...fantastically balanced...sweet malts up front followed up by a smooth fade into a warm spicy hop finish...goodness...
