Igor Sikorsky, at the age of 50, realized his dream of 30 years with the successful lift-off of the first practical helicopter in Stratford, Connecticut, September 14, 1939.

In honor of Stratford’s aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky, we’ve created this most unorthodox Russian Imperial Stout. Made with rye and aged in oak whiskey barrels that give it a depth of character like no other, we think Igor would be pleased with the attention to detail in our creation. Here’s to Igog-and following dreams to reach new heights!

gnoff (7844) - Mölndal, SWEDEN - AUG 19, 2014
Draught at 3 Små Rum, Göteborg, on April 19, 2014.
Black color, dark brown head. Sweet, roasted, cocoa, toffee taste. Roasted, ash aftertaste. Warming alcohol. Medium to fizzy mouthfeel, medium to medium high bitterness. Sweet, malty, roasted scent.
If a bit more sweet and less dry and attenuated, with that some less alcohol and a smoother relaxed body with less CO2, it would fit me very well indeed. Even so, a very nice beer!

Tap (Birofilia2014, Zywiec) (6+:4+:7+:4:15=3.6+++) as "Unorthodox Russian Imperial Stout / Igor’s Dream" on the pump clip with the picture of Igor
Not much aroma, just some nice rich roast. Black, tight tan head. Lovely mellow roast taste, a grat roast in fact, really deep, some nice burnt corners, but no astringency. Not saying 10.9% either. A lovely sipper. Finish has dry old bitter hops, just as I like them in strong stouts. Started 14+ overall, then got to 15-, then got to 15. If I had more, it may have crept up to 15+ or beyond, it really did get better the more you had. Great sipper, as I said.

Tap. Pitch black color. Medium size, brown head, stays. Malty, faint hops, faint alcohol, dirty notes in aroma. Coffee beans, roast, grainy taste. Short roast in aftertaste. Soft carbonation. Medium body.

jkwood04 (3950) - Connecticut, USA - JUN 23, 2014
750ml bottle (2013 batch - bottle 461) in a tulip. Pours black with a big, lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, some light chocolate and coffee, hints of soy sauce, light oak and whiskey, light caramel, and some dough with hints of bitterness. Flavor the same. Average texture. A decent beer, but not great for the style, and definitely not the best BA imperial stout.

Keg at the Well and Bucket Shoreditch. Black, lightly sparkling, big foamy tan head leaves light lacing. Aroma - is mostly steam-room menthol, lime, musty dark malts. Body is medium, a bit spritzy, quite foamy in the mouth. Taste - malty, pine hop, semi-sweet chocolate, no alcohol coming through. A very smooth imperial stout, very well put together.

Scopey (6865) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 14, 2014
Keg at well & bucket. It pours jet black with a medium tan head. The nose is rich, roasty, coffee, dark chocolate, Kirsch, dark fruits and jam. The taste is rich, roasty, earth, coffee, toast, salted caramel, liquorice, charred wood and light alcohol warmth with a dry, roasty finish. Full body, fine carbonation and slick mouth-feel. Nice richness, but not sickly. Surprisingly drinkable stuff.
