Igor Sikorsky, at the age of 50, realized his dream of 30 years with the successful lift-off of the first practical helicopter in Stratford, Connecticut, September 14, 1939.

In honor of Stratfordís aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky, weíve created this most unorthodox Russian Imperial Stout. Made with rye and aged in oak whiskey barrels that give it a depth of character like no other, we think Igor would be pleased with the attention to detail in our creation. Hereís to Igog-and following dreams to reach new heights!

Bottle shared with MarcoDL and PotjeBier @ Beer Temple. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized light brown head. Aroma is malts, firm roast and some alcohol, definitely rye whiskey influence. Tastes about the same: malts, some roast, firm rye whiskey, firm bitterness and lightly liquorice. Medium body and carbonation.

750 ml bottle. Bottled 12/20/13. #1547. A big thanks to Timo A! Black reddish color with a tiny tan head. Roasted malt, sweetness, caramel and ashiness in the aroma. The flavor is roasted malt, sweetness, alcohol, mild vegetables and bitterness. A bit unimpressing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours black color with a small beige head. Dark cocoa and syrup on the nose, mild hops and wooden notes, some licorice and maybe a bit of salmiac too. Flavor is dark roasted malty, oaty, some syrup notes, very subtle burnt notes, some coffee, grainy and slightly chocolaty. Sweet but interesting.

Clear dark black brown color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, rye, chocolate, coffee, wood. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, rye, dark malt, roasted, chocolate, light wood - whisky. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20151121]

First what I notice - huge brown head. Very roasty and a lot of hops, too much for Imperial Stout. Some notes of raisins, coffee/dark cacao mix, a bit of caramels some hits of whiskey alcohol. Overall very nice. And very expensive

Nice dense lasting brown head. Lovely solid roast aroma with aspects of dried fruits, berries, nice whiskey BA touch gives another dimension, some wood touch, one of the few, where I can really notice rye impact in breadish form. At first it seems bit too hoppy for my liking of RIS, but over few sips its getting very well blended with overall bouquet of aroma and taste. Nicely warming, but not too pushy, subtle dark choco. Interesting hop combo, bit herbal, bit floral even pine. Moderate to intense sweetness with moderate to intense bitterness. Very well balanced and rounded brew. Would be perfect if would be more oily and even more intense aftertaste, as of now - it fades away with some hop bitterness. Anyways.. awesome brew.

Bottle. Pours black in color with a nice tan head. Roasted malts, almost milk chocolatey kind of sweetness and hints of light spicy rye in aroma. Roasted coffee, bit of salty licorice and some wooden whiskey barrels in taste. Velvety smooth mouthfeel. One can feel the presence of rye as well. Sweeter chocolatey notes later on with some warming notes in the end.
