A hefty Black Ale with profound malt and hop complexity. Neither Stout nor Porter, it will be its own thing Ė full-bodied, bold and black. Flavor characteristics of dark chocolate, mocha, molasses and dark fruits. Balanced by piney citrusy notes of Pacific Northwest hops. Full-bodied and uncommonly satisfying at 7.5% alcohol.

12oz can thanks to Ed the Red, well heís not red but it frickin rhymes. Poured a good looking dense pitch black witbph a larger foamy deep beige head that lasts and lasts in my Carton Teku. Aroma is damn nice, roasted pineapple, charred citrus meat, lots of chocolate, touch of soy and earth. Body is a touch thinner than I would of liked with average carbonation. Flavor is basically the same as the aroma. Good stuff.

Roasty sweet malts with a mix of grapefruit and pine good in aroma. Pours black with a large frothy tan head. Good lacing. Taste is complex and balanced. Chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, with a pine and citrus finish. Everything melds nicely together. Excellent dry finish. Full body. Very interested and well put together.

12oz bottle. Pours black with a nice frothy off white head that left plenty of lacing on the glass. Sweet malt aroma. Notes of coffee and dark chocolate. Nice dry finish.

Thanks to Greg. This is a nice one, and a little hard to categorize. A black IPA - schwarzbier - light stout? Itís tasty for sure.

An opaque black body with a brown head that had excellent retention and great lace. Aroma was a mix of roasted coffee malts and grapefruit hops. There was just enough pine to balance out the citrusy notes. Flavor had a dark roasted coffee flavor upfront. Grapefruit hops really complemented the coffee flavors. There was just enough pine hops too keep it from being two-dimensional. Finish was dry and was easy to drink. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, thanks nimbleprop! Pours deep clear black, medium creamy tan head, dissipates slowly leaving nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasty, a bit burned, molasses, touch of rubber, pine sap. Flavor is light sweet, medium plus bitter, roasty and piney, pretty good balance between the two actually. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, Lots of lingering bitterness.

12oz bottle pours a murky black with some lacing, cloudy, cream colored head. Nose has some nice toasty character, a little tree bark, some pine, lemon rind, toast. Flavor is sweeter, more malt and a little molasses, the lemon character really jumped out, bitter roast, toast. Full bodied, bitter finish.

Location: 12 oz bottle from State Line, 1/24/15

Aroma: Lightly roasty aroma, some fruity and sweet malts, milk chocolate, and some pine hops
Appearance: Pours a dark brown color with a thick froth of light brown head and heavy lacing
Flavor: Taste-wise, it is fairly balanced, with a good mix of roast, sweetness, and hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, leaning light, with a nice drinkability, and a soft, clean, light dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty solid, drinkable, and balanced Black IPA. It isnít the most hoppy example of the style, nor is it the best example of the style, but I found it to be pretty enjoyable. This one drinks like it is well under its actual ABV.

Pours mahogany tinged black into a shaker. Mocha head with excellent retention recedes to skim surface. Dark caramel and chocolate aromas. Soft with dark chocolate and espresso upfront turning to dark pit fruit. Lasting bitter resin and dark cocoa finish.

Black pour, tan head. Sharp aroma of pine, flavor is roasty, sharp, pine, notes from espresso. Honestly too intensely bitter in its roast, and Iím a bit of a hophead.
