3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
An opaque black body with a brown head that had excellent retention and great lace. Aroma was a mix of roasted coffee malts and grapefruit hops. There was just enough pine to balance out the citrusy notes. Flavor had a dark roasted coffee flavor upfront. Grapefruit hops really complemented the coffee flavors. There was just enough pine hops too keep it from being two-dimensional. Finish was dry and was easy to drink.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, thanks nimbleprop! Pours deep clear black, medium creamy tan head, dissipates slowly leaving nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasty, a bit burned, molasses, touch of rubber, pine sap. Flavor is light sweet, medium plus bitter, roasty and piney, pretty good balance between the two actually. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, Lots of lingering bitterness.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle pours a murky black with some lacing, cloudy, cream colored head. Nose has some nice toasty character, a little tree bark, some pine, lemon rind, toast. Flavor is sweeter, more malt and a little molasses, the lemon character really jumped out, bitter roast, toast. Full bodied, bitter finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Location: 12 oz bottle from State Line, 1/24/15
Aroma: Lightly roasty aroma, some fruity and sweet malts, milk chocolate, and some pine hops
Appearance: Pours a dark brown color with a thick froth of light brown head and heavy lacing
Flavor: Taste-wise, it is fairly balanced, with a good mix of roast, sweetness, and hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, leaning light, with a nice drinkability, and a soft, clean, light dry finish
I thought this was a pretty solid, drinkable, and balanced Black IPA. It isn’t the most hoppy example of the style, nor is it the best example of the style, but I found it to be pretty enjoyable. This one drinks like it is well under its actual ABV.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours mahogany tinged black into a shaker. Mocha head with excellent retention recedes to skim surface. Dark caramel and chocolate aromas. Soft with dark chocolate and espresso upfront turning to dark pit fruit. Lasting bitter resin and dark cocoa finish.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black pour, tan head. Sharp aroma of pine, flavor is roasty, sharp, pine, notes from espresso. Honestly too intensely bitter in its roast, and I’m a bit of a hophead.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at home. Jet black pour. Huge mocha head. Aroma is piney hops, touch of chocolate, and charred grain. Very smooth and creamy palate, albeit a bit thin. Bitter, roasty finish. More "hoppy porter" than it is "black IPA".

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle out of a sixer, via One Stop Market. Borderline black with ruby highlights. Aroma shows mild ashy char with a big pine needles and resin.
Mostly right on the mark for the style. Big pine hop influence with light hints of chocolate. Body is borderline thin with just a bit much in the carbonation department. One of the better offerings from this brewer but nothing I’ll go out of the way to grab again. I will not turn it down if offered.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours pitch black. Aroma is of your typical American IPA’s. Hops, slight grass, citrus and some earthiness. Flavor is similar. Hops, grain, citrus and a slight skinned bite. Nice and heavier mouthfeel. Leaves a roasty hop finish. Good stuff.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Dark brown with creamy beige head, crisp malt and caramel aroma, high carbonation, roasted malt, hops and caramel taste with a hint of coffee, longish end, bitter hops aftertaste. Interesting brew but not very reminiscent of IPAs.
