A hefty Black Ale with profound malt and hop complexity. Neither Stout nor Porter, it will be its own thing – full-bodied, bold and black. Flavor characteristics of dark chocolate, mocha, molasses and dark fruits. Balanced by piney citrusy notes of Pacific Northwest hops. Full-bodied and uncommonly satisfying at 7.5% alcohol.

Interesting beer that bridges a few styles. Kind of like an earthy piney hopped porter. Some chocolate a bit of ash and earthy roastyness with a piney herbal hoppiness.

Bottle. Dark brown with creamy beige head, crisp malt and caramel aroma, high carbonation, roasted malt, hops and caramel taste with a hint of coffee, longish end, bitter hops aftertaste. Interesting brew but not very reminiscent of IPAs.

Bottle shared at Kernel Brewery at Zwanze Dat 20/09/2014. Many thanks to Leighton. Viscous dark caramel coloured pour with not much of a head. Aroma is caramel, resin, citrus with a bit of melon. Flavour is compposed of caramel, some liquorice, roast and dark choc malts with piney resinous hops. Palate is low carbonation, medium ful body. Lingering tangy liquorice and bif hearty roast. Pretty ballsy

Draft. Pours black with a thin creme colored head that lingers. It's a black ipa with a funky finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap. Dark pour with a big mocha head that suggest a porter. Pine and grapefruit, with a hint of cirrus and herb. Medium body. Creamy carbonation with a smoky and bitter finish. Nice

Bottle. Deep black color. Foam makes it look like a stout but comes off as a black IPA right away. Good Style very nice tasting and easy drinking despite the ABV

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is pine, chocolate, herbs, some frutiness. Taste is rather bitter. Beer is kind of on the heavy side. Pretty bitter while drinking. Dark chocolate and earthiness are there in good measure. Not my favourite.

Tasting at Paul and Lorna’s flat. Deepest Croydonia. Thanks to Leighton. Opaque dark brown beer, big pale tan head. Airy semi dry palate, fine carbonation. Mild dark malts, little lactose like sweetness. Very mild roast. Mild piney hops and equally mild hop spice. Airy finish. Mellow bitter linger. Pretty easy going.

Bottle thanks L-Dogg. It pours darkest brown with a medium tan head. The nose is rich roast, pine needles, cocoa, earth, coffee and citrus peel. The taste is bitter, rich roast, dark chocolate, resin, pine needles, varnish, citrus peel, soapy and charred wood with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Decent.
