A hefty Black Ale with profound malt and hop complexity. Neither Stout nor Porter, it will be its own thing – full-bodied, bold and black. Flavor characteristics of dark chocolate, mocha, molasses and dark fruits. Balanced by piney citrusy notes of Pacific Northwest hops. Full-bodied and uncommonly satisfying at 7.5% alcohol.

Very hoppy for a porter, could almost be a black IPA. Resinous hops, roasted malts, and a little smoke up front.

Tasting at Paul and Lorna’s flat. Deepest Croydonia. Thanks to Leighton. Opaque dark brown beer, big pale tan head. Airy semi dry palate, fine carbonation. Mild dark malts, little lactose like sweetness. Very mild roast. Mild piney hops and equally mild hop spice. Airy finish. Mellow bitter linger. Pretty easy going.

Bottle thanks L-Dogg. It pours darkest brown with a medium tan head. The nose is rich roast, pine needles, cocoa, earth, coffee and citrus peel. The taste is bitter, rich roast, dark chocolate, resin, pine needles, varnish, citrus peel, soapy and charred wood with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Decent.

Bottle shared pre Zwanze 2014 - picked up in CT. Pours black-brown with a lively, tight tan head. Rounded dark malt nose with calm roast, dried fruits. Medium sweet flavor with strong ashy roast, burnt wood, baking cocoa, raisin, some pine oils. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming to finish, some more strong bitter ashy wood, dark fruits, burnt toast, earth. Not bad.

Bottle poured a black in color with a thick coating of sturdy brown head. Aroma has dark malt, chocolate, and a dose of hops. Mouth feel is medium and the carbonation average. Flavor certainly has a lot of hops, dark malt, and some bitterness. More like a black barley wine.

Bottle thanks to Guinn at a tasting. Pours a dark brown to black. One finger of tan head. Highly hopped. An odd style hopping seems overdone. Decent beer. Too hoppy.

Bottle shared at Craft Ale House with my good friend boxofrane. Pours hazy black with khaki head. Nose was resiny hops, dark malt, cacao. Tasted very hoppy, with a nicely balanced dark malt flavor, and a creamy, smooth finish.
