Catholic monasteries were historically major centers of brewing and learning, and their educational model eveolved into the modern university. Two Roads brewers and some beer-loving professors in Sacred Heart University’s biology department collaborated to brew this beer in celebration of that history. It is fermented with a yeast strain from a centuries-old monastic brewery currently operating in Belgium. This Abbey Single is brewed to be distinctive in flavor, yet approachable and refreshing.

Authentic Abbey blond (although low in ABV for the style). Yeasty with light citrus, some banana, apricot and apple. Refreshing.

Bouteille bue en août 2014. Levures épicées, banane, abricot. Amertume légèrement acidulée. Représentation plus ou moins réussite du style.

Big thanks to gregwilsonstl for sharing this one with me. Pours light hazy golden yellow with a white head. The aroma has pale malt, spice, dryness and abbey yeast. It has a medium / light body that is crisp with mild sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with crackers, spice, bananas and mild rustic notes. The finish has paper, wood and grass. Good Belgian blonde ale.

Bam! CT done....with a beer with a Catholic bent, no less! Thx Johnnnniee for helping me cross off my final state!!! Lots of banana and pepper. Cloudy dirty blonde. Dry. Im generally not a fan of Belgians (the beer, I’m fine with the people), but this is pretty good. Enjoyed this as a porch beer.

Bottled 07/31/2015. This was poured into a chalice. The appearance was a transparent yellow color with a slim white level cap of a head that hung around for a good minute. A gentle clingy rim of white lacing sticks around in the wake of the head. The smell starts off with Belgian spices, light coriander, some citrus, and then some apples, pears and delicate sweet grass. The taste copies the aroma for the most part, balanced sweet and spicy. There’s a light spicy aftertaste running into a wet sweet to spicy finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation moves slyly over my tongue in a nice way. Overall, I’d say this was a nice Belgian pale ale that I could have again, preferably in the Summer.

Draught. Clear bright yellow with small off-white foamy head, faint vanilla aroma, high carbonation, characteristic Belgian yeast taste, thin body, medium bitter finish. Quite a good brew.

Bottle purchased at One Stop Market, Haverhill. Slowly poured into a chalice, hazy yellow color with thin lasting head. Aroma is light fruit, weak bready notes and maybe clove.

Main base of the beer is pale malts that show bread. Yeast shows fruit and a light pepper hint. Overall the body is on the light side with yeast and malt giving no bitterness but does show a low about of spice to give some balance. The texture becomes dry after the sip. Actually this is a bit better than I had anticipated. Worth a try if you like the style

Bottle from Brewfest. Gold with chill haze and flat head and lace. Tropical fruit sourdough and floral and spice aroma. Medium tropical fruit grass and rindy spicy fruity mildly tart finish. Light and lively. Extremely refreshing and lively. Perhaps less sweet and bready and more spicy fruity than usual for the style but very delicious. Almost saison-like. Excellent.
