A traditional farmhouse ale made with a very expressive yeast strain that contributes an array of tropical fruit, spice flavors and aromatics. Brewed with a variety of harvest grains including barley, wheat, oats and rye as was likely the case with farmhouse brewers of yore. The result is a complex, refreshing and distinctive example of this esoteric style. Intensely fruity (passion fruit, pineapple, mango, lychee), slightly spicy (clove, white pepper)

Translucent golden straw with a billowing white head. Medium body with high carbonation.

Aroma: classic saison yeast notes like a stone basement full of lychees, apples, pears, mango, and straw. Malt and hop character are pushed into obscurity.

Taste: black pepper and clove yeast phenols dominate up front, followed by a complex mix of pale barley, tart wheat, and a hint of grainy rye.

I’m not generally a fan of saisons, but this is wonderfully fruity, spicy, and grainy -complex and balanced.

Unlike other posters, I happen to think that this example of a saison is very well done. Despite its low alcohol and high sessionability, the white pepper and tropical fruit notes are highly complex and balanced. The use of oats creates a lovely mouthfeel, but the shining star is the yeast. Beautiful beer.

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2014 Bottled 6/6/13 from Trader Joes in Fairfield. Very pale gold with slightly fizzy loud head. Nice lemon pastry yeasty citrus spicy aroma. Medium fruity pineapple mango sweetness with assertive herbal peppery hop fairly dry finish. Lacks the true Belgian saison soft texture. Medium light but fizzy. Good. 12/5/14 Meh. I think my tastes have evolved. Giving this more points. Lively texture is okay.

Flaska från Mikkeller&Friends. Gyllengul klar vätska, vitt lågt skum. Stiltypisk belgisk saison med mycket karaktär. Torr, krispig och lite oljig munkänsla. Kryddig, fruktig, jästig, estrig i trevlig kombination. Jordig, gräsig och örtig, vitpepper, nejlika, lätt pepprig och gräsig beska, lätt tropisk fruktighet. Fin smakbild. Mycket god

On tap back in May, just adding rating now. Delicious! Drinkable, yeasty, dry, not too peppery.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a hazy golden color with a one finger white foamy head that quickly concaves to leave a film of a cap of a head. Lacing is mostly few and far between. The smell had some light of tropical fruit, and peppery spice. After a bit of warming, there’s some rye malt. The taste was basically the same with an added sweet breadiness intertwining and leading into the aftertaste. There’s a dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light allowing the spice to hit a bit harder for the harshness level of this beer. Overall, whoah, better than expected from Two Roads. I’d have this again, nice saison leaning to the spicier side of the wheelhouse.
