COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed using US alpha hops with a decent I.B.U. of 45 for its strength of 4.9% ABV it has the characteristics of the style with a strong grapefruit and citrus aroma leading to a clean slightly dry bitterness that lasts! Not as in ya face as your typical brash American but certainly no shrinking violet either. Enjoy!

[York Beer Festival, 2014] - Tyne Bank Brewery Silver Dollar, 4.9%, tieforange klar, etwas luftiger Schaum.

Bottled. Ambery golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is bready and a bit dusty maltiness along with some slight caramel, zest and mild herbal and berryish notes. Flavour is quite similar, but more dominating in a kind of fruity way.

14th Mar 2015: 500ml bottle at home during a mini rating session with myself. Poured into an Abbot Ale badged glass tankard, nice clear amber body, the head a swiftly fading affair. The nose and initial taste was caramel sweetness, then the citrus and bitterness bites. Refreshing, the finish being slightly dry. If you could get a ’Toffee Grapefruit’ on a stick at the fair, it would taste like this.

500ml bottle, pours amber golden brown with a white head. Aroma has grainy malt, light caramel, cardboard, light grapefruit and passion fruit hoppiness. Medium body, creamy oily texture, soft to flat carbonation. Finish is light sweet, overripe fruit.

Pint at the Duke of Welly, Newcastle. This has developed a bit of a reputation in these parts, but it’s taken me a while to try it. Fine golden slightly hazy body, with a tight white head. Assertive grapefruit aroma. Citrus flavour with some well balanced malted milk biscuit notes. Clean sharp and refreshing, with a gently astringent finish. More subtlety than many a bombastic APA.

Slightly hazy copper with a medium off-white head. Aroma is malty and light. Sweet malt flavours give way to loads of grapefruit. Slightly resinous. Light to medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Pretty good.

Cask at Pig’s Ears, amber with a lacing head, nose is biscuity with a touch of spicy hops. Perhaps a couple of degrees C too warm. Malty body with caramel and toffee, plus a dry grapefruity bitter overlay. Halfway between APA and English bitter, maybe.
