From a 12oz Bottle. Mostly transparent, dark, borderline black colored body with ruby hues and a finger of creamy tan head. Rich malt aroma of roast, molasses, and chocolate with some mild charred smoke notes. Light to moderate smoke levels, more on the ashy end of the spectrum than the bacon side. The pepper is very mild in the nose, suggesting more of a raw jalapeno quality than a chipotle character. Medium full bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel with a thick, velvety texture. Complex roast malt flavors of chocolate, molasses, and ashy smoke. A moderate minty hop bitterness helps balance the richness of the malt and works well with the roast bitterness. The chipotle character is rather restrained and adds only faint qualities to the flavor. The pepper comes through most noticeably long into the finish, creating a lingering spicy tickle after the alcohol warmth fades. The base beer is quite tasty and is easily the most interesting part of the beer. Happily, the smoke and pepper don’t overwhelm those flavors, but at the same time, they aren’t adding a tremendous amount of additional enjoyment either.

Soft brown, oily without much of a head - solidly opaque. Nose was oily, BBQ and soy but didn’t kick onto the initial taste. Neat and spicy throughout, very soft carbonation but thick and monstrous on the linger. Spicy enough, the roast and choc was more apparent as the heat faded on the finish. Linger was lean enough, back to the soy roastiness.

Very dark brown in color with a tall, lasting tan head. Toasted and roasted malt with a With a bit of green pepper in the background. A little more nose time, bring in some of the chipotle, but even it has a bit of “greenness” to it. Sweet pepper and roasted malt in the front. The malt sticks a little while and then releases to the every so slight bite of pepper. Hints of ash and white pepper in the remains. 3/10

12 ounce bottle thanks to Michael. Pours a very dark brown color with almost no head. A bi roast, cocoa, vanilla and light pepper nose. Rich dark fruit, smoke, the pepper provides more flavor than heat- which is good with me, cherry, cocoa, chocolate, milky, vanilla. A bit thin. This rounds out to be an excellent beer. The whole is almost dusty dry and fruity.

"the last porter i had w/chipotle peppers was a little much, so i was wondering about this going in, but it was done very very well. another courtesy trade w/pfoxyjohn...and another winner. the peppers were hidden at first but came out nicely as the beer warmed, without ever being overpowering. aroma of smoke, rich chocolate and peppers. very dark brew. big full body...almost oily. smooth and rich. dry and smoky flavor, sweet from the chocolate and malts, pepper in the finish. a tasty treat."

(retrieved from 08/2013 Midwest jpg backlog). 12oz bottle bought & sampled in Milwaukee/WI Very mild and drinkable execution of a potentially wild recipe: dominant milk chocolate and mild caramel flavours, not getting all that much heat, nor smoke apart from a slight earthy edge that could be anything really and a prickly effervescence. Could tilt either way depending on mood, receptacle, atmospheric temperature, company, aging...
