3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2010 Bottle - Pours thin and dk brown with a thin off white head...aroma is charcoal and roast, dk cocoa and some espresso...flavour is similar, perhaps the best smoked chile presence I’ve had, with the lightest heat, cocoa and smoke (I normally don’t like smoke, but it just works!)...finishes with a bit of chile and thin cocoa, full of flavour and not heavy at all...enjoyed this much more than I expected!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Year old bottle. Brown pour, black body with a small ring of tan head. The aroma is stout-like...heavy roast, chocolate. As it warms it releases some smoke and chili pepper notes. There is also a touch of fig, but I think that might be attributed to oxidation. The flavor has all the same elements. It starts out rich and roasty, then the smoke flavor builds, and finally, it finishes more abrupt than expected with a nice lingering pepper flavor and heat. Full, rich mouthfeel, soft carbonation, and great flavor.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours very dark black, almost no head. Has a chocolaty chili smell. Nice robust flavor. Taste of smoked chocolate coffee. Not any spice from the chipolte, just smokeyness. Wish it didn’t have a twist top. This is a nice beer and should be better sealed.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
The beer pours black as night with a dark mocha one finger head. Small tight bubbles. The aroma is smoke forward. However there is a very present dark chocolate smell. The chocolate almost smells bitter. Definite hints of roast on the aroma. Mild carbonation on the front of the tongue. Hit with the smoke right away. Moves thinly across the palate. Maybe a hint of dark fruit mixed with a hop bitterness. That rolls into a decent dark bitter chocolate finish that beckons another sip. Maybe a slight hint of the pepper on the finish. Alright overall, body could have been bigger. No hint of the alcohol.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, as pictured. Dark brown opaque pour. Smells sweet with some spices - chocolate, cinnamon, clove. Taste is similar with a little tiny bit of peppery heat in the finish. Not at all spicy, but you can feel the pepper. Smooth mouthfeel, nice beer.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: AUG 3, 2013 Nose is common porter sweet and malty. Dark rich chocolate with tan foamy head. Tast is best with toasty smokey malts with reliable pepper heat on finish with each sip. Very well established. Palate is soft. Overall pretty great, bought another pack strait away.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Got this in a trade from madbeerbaron. You’re the man! Pours a very dark brown color with ruby glints at the bottom edge of the glass. A two-finger dark taupe head forms, but fades to half a finger relatively quickly. Big aromas of coffee, smoke, cream, and fig. Mouthfeel is a bit less viscous than it seemed to pour. In fact, it seems to deflate on the palate. The flavor is pretty fun. Fresh chili, lactose, fig, and even some capsaicin burn before the finish. Finishes with some mild tartness. I love the flavor of this one.

Let me begin by saying that Tyranena is my favorite Wisconsin brewery. BGW pours motor oil black with a slight tan head. Smokiness, just a hint of pepper and earthy chocolate flavors dominate. Very well balanced with no dominating characteristic. If I could change anything, I would prefer a little higher ABV. But in the end I can drink more of them with its current level.
