12 oz bottle from benzai, thanks! Bottled on 23 July 2014. Clear, deep amber to copper color. Light beige head with a 1 bubble layer retention. Aromaís: flowery and fruity hops, tropical fruit, bready malts. Somewhat resinous retronasal, floral and herbal hops, malty sweetness. Flavor is moderate sweet with a nice moderate bitter backbone. Medium bodied. Finishes a bit dry and moderate bitter. Nice enough.

"an aromatic and highly tasty IIPA courtesy of pfoxyjohn. nice bouqet of floral citrusy hops and spice. the head is big and tight. body is big and creamy. very nice. huge hop bitterness and flavor, and one of the hoppiest beers iíve had thatís managed to be well balanced. flavor is lots of citrus and spicy hops and lots of malt to sweeten things up. lingering bittersweet aftertaste. very nice, smooth brew."

12 ounce bottle from Keg Liquors. Bit of a malt bomb with big malty flavors. Sticky nose. Some resin. No clue regarding freshness.

UPDATED: OCT 3, 2014 Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus, Joes and Judyvv. Clear dark orange to reddish color, medium sized off-white to beige head. Aroma is malts, hops, sweet resin. Taste malts, hops, resinous, heavy resinous bitter. Very nice finish, but the initial flavors and aroma are slightly disappointing.

Bottle @ Joes. Clear amber colour with a small off-white head. Smells hops, sweet, malts. Tastes sweet, malts, hops, fresh, nice. Could be more crisp. Medium body, nice carbo.

Clear, deep amber-copper with a frothy, white head. It has an earthy and floral hop aroma with some mild citrus. The full body has a slick, oily body with good carbonation. The taste is moderately bitter to start and turns more bitter throughout the finish.

I am rating this beer in comparison to other Imperial IPAs, which I would have to say this is not. I think this beer has more in common with a barleywine style like Lagunitaís Brown Shugga, as opposed to an Imperial IPA. The name is misleading; it has almost no hoppyness to it whatsoever. Being in California, we do not get Tyranena out here, and I ordered it from a company in Illinois. I am used to West Coast styles of IPA such as Stone Enjoy By, Russian Riverís Pliny the Elder and Firestoneís Union/Double Jack. Those beers are more traditional IPA with a strong hoppy flavor, bite, and substance. Those beers pour with an orangish hue and have a impressive and powerful aroma. Imperial IPAs kick it up a notch and typically pour browner than regular IPA. They keep the hop flavoring, but lose some of the aroma. Hop Whore is neither of these descriptions. It pours brown, like a barleywine style. It has a sweet and strong molasses odor, and tastes like sorghum and yeast. I donít get any hoppyness from this at all, which really makes me question the name. If this were described as a barleywine, it would be more appropriate, but lacks the oomph to compete with beers on that level. This beer is really a conundrum to me as I donít know how to classify it, but it is a terrible Imperial IPA.
