A Belgian-Style IPA. The Bitter Woman journeyed to Belgium and returned with a certain je ne sais quoi. A spicy belgian yeast and specialty caramel malts add a whole new dimension of sophistication and style to our favorite Old Lass. Enjoy the Bitter Woman Belgian Style!

12 oz. bottle, consumed on 9-11-10. Labeled as Tyranena La Femme Amére Wisconsin Belgique-Style India Pale Ale. Pours a sparkling, bright gold to light copper with many bubbles and a small amount of cream-colored head. Good lacing. Nice, Belgianesque aroma combined with a hoppy dryness. Orange, cinnamon, cardamom, coriander, lemon, and pumpkin scents. Very appetizing smell. Much dryer flavor than the aroma suggests. Belgian yeast and spices come mostly in the form of hints in the taste. Citrus that is hard to peg: Is it from the Belgian or the IPA parentage? Orange and grapefruit. Also white grape juice. Long, dry finish and aftertaste. Light to medium body. Soft, fluffy, and frothy in the palate.

Bottle from the Orland Park, IL, Binny’s: This poured a light amber body with a modest head. The aroma had some citrus pulp, a touch of floral, and zest over a light toffee. The flavor relected the nose faithfully and added a solid zesty bitterness. Tingly mouthfeel. Pretty decent.

bottle shared by maxxdaddy. Pours a copper body with thinning head low carbonation. Aroma is bubblegum phenolics, belgiean yeast, dough, mint, earth, and hay. Flavor is minty with some iced tea dull slightly stale malts, toffee, cookie doughy and bubblegum with light grassy phenolic hop zest- harsh bitter in the end with some cardamon pepper, and cinamon - leather and astringent as well. Meh.

Dark gold color with a medium head. Bready, yeasty aroma with lots of fresh and green hops. Quite floral. Mildly soapy and some spiciness that I’d compare to a tripel’s yeast. Grainy and bready flavor. Strong bitterness. Some caramel. Dry finish.

bottle - Pours clear copper with a small, white head. It smells of citrus hops and spicy yeast. That hops and the Belgian yeast are both well represented in the flavor. I also got a slight hint of funk. It’s a good but not great beer that finishes very dry.

Courtesy of northernbrews. Dark golden amber, minimal head. Aroma has decent yeast character up front, spicy/herbal hops. Flavor much the same, bit muddled. Really not getting any Belgian character.

Gold to amber pour with a hits head. Fruity aroma with a great hop finish. Nice belgian flavor throughout with a medium body. Fairly complex, ver good.

Light hazy amber pour with a fizzy white head and drippy lace. Aroma is all out Belgian spice. Flavor is piney, citric, candy sugar and spices. Dry finish with nice balance

12 oz. bottle from my fiance’s aunt from Madison. This is my first beer from a brewer I’ve been wanting to try for a long time now. Pours a mostly clear dark orange-amber color with a small off-white head that doesn’t last long or leave any lacing. Aroma of floral hops, caramel malts, Belgian yeast, mild spices, banana, and sweet bread. Flavor of caramel malts, Belgian yeast, leafy hops, tea, banana, apples, and some spices. Light-medium bodied, with above-average carbonation and a malty mouthfeel. Neither the Belgian characteristics nor the hoppy or bitter IPA characteristics are dominating. In a way, I wouldn’t have minded seeing one emerge more to make this thing really pop, but as it stands it’s a well-balanced take on this style.

Bottle split with a friend. Poured a clear amber gold with a gray head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had a nice light citrus note that melded nicely with a smooth floral note and a bit of a light grain backing. Flavor was similar with some light grain notes in the start with a combination of growing citrus and floral notes in to the finish.
