3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Really malty aroma with dried cherries, peat-smoke and floral notes. Ruby-amber in color with a thin head that fades. Strong peaty flavor is what I notice first, but there is a lot going on, with sweet, nutty, sticky, syrupy caramel malt. I can tell this has been aged and am digging the flavors. Nice and oily texture, fairly full body and no noticeable alcohol. Pretty good.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
few tastes in the past, but no rates...aged bottle, which is probably obvious at this point. murky brown pour...almost no head at all. aroma is actually quite light...syrupy malts, some dark fruit, hint of bitterness...ok, but the age has not helped this beer out in the nose. flavor is sweet malt, decent dose of bittering hops, a decent amount of smoke, and booze...decent. palate is average for the style...somewhat oily but not too thick. this one is past it’s prime...I recall it being better in its youth...

Bottle date 11/20/06. Carmel color body with no head. Little bit of maltiness on the nose but no discerning features in the mouth.weird smoked after taste. Will have to try a fresh one to compare.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from JCapriotti...thanks Jason! - Aggressive pour produces a tiny off-white head that is gone in an instant, leaving a murky rosy brown body. Swirling this baby around brings out limp molasses, caramel, and oak note. Cardboard is starting to take over, but up this baby a point for a smoky, peaty smell. The taste has that same smokiness, which is quite pleasant and an unexpected surprise. Past that, there’s the same muddled sweetness that combines brown sugar and molasses, and ends with a bit of alcohol bite that is barely noticeable. Still tasting oxidized, but with enough lingering flavor and complexity to keep it interesting. And so smooth. As it warms, the alcohol bite fades, and a nice breadiness evolves. The nose begins to firm up a bit, too, but it still has that cardboard element to it. Body is full, well-carbonated (surprising, given the lack of head), and pretty slick and syrupy. Decent, though nothing I’d want to try again. However, if they brew this again I’ll be all over it.

12 oz. bottle; 2007 vintage; slight hiss and trace head on a dark caramel colored body; big time brown sugar, dates and healthy dose of oxidation; light sugar and dry malt; stale, dry fruit; thin, sugary texture; plums, raisins, brown sugar; thin, dead, flat and quite oxidized at this point

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle of unknown vintage, but happy to try it! Pours a hazy, murky amber with a tiny ring of sandy bubbles...aroma is sweet and sticky, caramel raisin, figgy...light alcohol in the nose...flavour is on par, burnt sugar and caramel, dried fruit, old leather, cocoa and some heat...Tyranena is consistently suprising me with their BGW series...

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle from ughsmash. Brilliant amber, no head. Aroma rather muddled, alcohol, caramel and faint citrus. Doesn’t appear to be malt heavy. Flavor has tons of hot alcohol, band aid, and tons of strange phenolics. Palate extremely thin. More and more band aid as it warms, most band aid I’ve ever had.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from a trade with MIBRomeo. Pours dark caramel color with thin tan head. Aromas of caramel and dark fruits with some burnt plastic. Sweet caramel flavor with some raisins, licorice and plastic. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. It’s a pretty good beer, but something seems off. Thanks Chuck.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2010-04-17. Murky brown body with a smallish beige head that struggles to stick around. 3+ Modest alcohol starts off the aroma, caramel, sweet malt, raisins and dark fruit. 7+ Flavour is sweet, caramel and toffee, very light bitterness, dark fruit character both natural and a raisin character that hints at oxidation. Smooth medium to full bodied palate is lightly carbonated. I fear that I left this just a little bit too long, as suggested by the raisiny oxidation but it is still quite pleasant. Bottle about a year old, courtesy of HogTownHarry.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
bottle pours murky brown with a medium frothy light tan head. Aroma is sweet cherry and white grape with a touch of grapefruit hops. Flavor is rich and sweet caramel and biscuit malt, some toasted nuts, and a fruity yeast flavor that ends with a nice fruity hop flavor in the finish. Really good.
