4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Damn near black pour, very thick, with a slight tan head. Lots of toffee and coffee beans in the aroma…mmm. Rich, full bodied and creamy, velvety on the tongue. Lots of coffee flavor balances with burnt malts, chocolate and toffee. Some sweetness, but well balanced. This beer is damn near perfect. Thanks Jeff!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz bottle, via Monger. Pours a very dark brown colored body with minimal light passing through the edges. Small brown foamy head ran to a thin ring. The aroma is of heavily roasted coffee, bitter chocolate, burnt malt, oats, chalk, and a hint of alcohol. Kinda like fresh espresso grounds. The coffee, roast, and oatmeal really work well together. Aggressive moderately bitter espresso smoothed out with the oats finishing with a slight burnt ashiness and a touch of sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with a smooth velvety texture and light fine carbonation. This was very nice. Similar in alot of ways to Meantime Coffee. Coffee first, then beer second.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Bottle thanks Ughsmash) Pours devilish black Full coffee bean aroma with some smaller notes of parsley and dry roasted malt. Coffee flavour with parsley and some sweeter notes. Soft and smooth and clean mouthfeel with medium, near full body. The lingering aftertaste consist of dark malt and burned coffee. This is a very nice beer, but mostly a mind blowing coffee bomb.

4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12oz bottle acquired in trade with ughsmash (thanks!). Poured a dark black (with brown edges) and an averaged sized brown head. I could smell the coffee as I started pouring this one! I love coffee beers and this was a great start. Aromas of coffee grounds, espresso, chocolate, light vanilla, roast, and some oats. Tastes of vanilla, coffee (although not as strong as the aromas but definitely there), roast, burnt malts, oats, and chocolate. I love coffee in my beer and this one was a great example of what I expect when I read ’Imperial Coffee’ on the label!

UPDATED: AUG 1, 2013
4/05/2007: "The Devil Made Me Do It" is an "Imperial Oatmeal Porter with Coffee Beans" that is near glack in color, opaque, and has a brown crown. It looks thick from based on the pour. The aroma is expensive coffee with some rich chocolate around the edges. Dark chocolate, coffee, mocha, and cream round out the rich and robust flavor. The alcohol is well integrated into the overall flavor. My wife really seemed to enjoy this beer as well. She took three drinks one right after another (which is unheard of) and proclaimed "This is really good!" I had to take it away from her before she drank it all! The body is full and quite thick. It feels smooth and creamy in the mouth. Overall, this is an excellent beer. It can easily hold it’s own against the other great coffee and breakfast stouts out there. Tyranena definitely knows how to make excellent, unique, and memorable brews.
12 oz bottle from buckybeer. Thanks Mark! This was a fantastic beer. AllAboutStout also shared a bottle of this with me on 3/09/2007. Thanks Steve! I appreciate it. Score: 8/3/8/4/17=4.0

12/07/2010: Tyranena The Devil Made Me Do It! Coffee Imperial Oatmeal Porter... Aroma: Intense darkly roasted espresso with a smooth chocolate-y sweetness that takes off the coffee edge. Appearance: Murky, ultra-dark cola brown color; pours silky smooth without much carbonation; thin, but dense tan-colored crown. Flavor: Semi-sweet and dark chocolate with a slash of high-text espresso; nice roasty coffee bean and accompanying bitterness in the middle (similar to the experience of sucking on a dark-roasted coffee bean) that is tempered quite a bit by oatmeal; short, but bold finish with a nice lingering sweet coffee aftertaste; quite a bit of dark chocolate comes out as the beer warms. Palate: Full-bodied; oily and ultra smooth; milky texture, but doesn’t feel heavy. Overall: DAMN GOOD and still holding well despite the age; an excellent example of how both a coffee beer and an oatmeal beer should be!
12 fluid ounce bottle. Score: Score: 8/4/8/4/17=4.1

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Styles. Black body with small tan head. The aroma is heavy with espresso, chocolate, molases and lots of roasted burnt malt. Flavor is burnt marshmallow, roast, espresso and dark chocolate. Full body with soft carbonation and a silky, oatmeal texture. Nice, but a touch too sweet.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma is great. Subtle coffee and oat characteristics that aren’t overbearing. Looks great with a slight tan head. Lacing all the way down, for what it’s worth. Flavor was good, and alcohol well-hidden, but was quite thin. Tasted like oatmeal and coffee soda. Hints of oaky vanilla and mild nuttiness are there, but are overshadowed by the coffee. Not a complaint, seeing as how I CRAVE coffee and the bottle describes this beer as such. Just a tad simplistic. Medium carbonation and silky smooth going down. Well-balanced, but a little weak for a beer rated so high, IMO. Very drinkable and enjoyable but not terribly complex. Would definitely drink this quite often if given the opportunity, but I’ll settle for trading for it every now and again.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle from Styles, thanks Chris. big nose of strong coffee. pours almost black with a ruby edge and with a short tan head and spotty lace every time I tip my snifter. flavor has hints of chocolate and roasted malts, but dominating everything is the strong coffee. nice creamy mouth-feel from the oats. enjoyable, but I would have liked it better with less coffee.
