Crystal malt and light hops in the aroma. Bitter, with some spicy malt flavors and a hoppy finish. Medium bodied. Has definitely gone off a bit since bottling. Hops mostyle manifest with a string bitterness in the finish, with aroma being a bit muted. Not an IPA that I would reach for over many others, but drinkable. illidurit (953), Santa Cruz, California, USA

Aroma of old hops, grapefruity but dusty. Caramel and crystal malt flavor with a little bit of rye spiciness and a tart citrus character coming through. Medium body and good carbonation. Needs a fresh rerate. DSG (1542), Tel Aviv, Israel

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 15, 2010 Lots of rye on the nose, almost like rye bread. Some caramel and an earthy spicy hop kick in there as well. Pours hazy amber with some floating sediment and a thin foam island through the middle of the glass. Flavor is somewhat sweet with lots of rye bread and tangy earthy/spicy hops. A hint of floral/citrus notes show up too, but this shows off the rye quite a bit and the hop finish is earthy and peppery for the most part. Lingering malt flavors as well as some spicy dryness. Well done, but I enjoyed others from this brewery more than this one. theisti (1730), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 6, 2010 12 oz twist off bottle sent to me by my 2009 winter Secret Santa. Pour is orange golden, mostly clear, with a bunch of very fine floaties suspended in the glass. The head is a one inch egg white, and falls with pretty lacing. Aroma of immediate resin hops, a nice caramel malt behind that, followed by the spiciness of the rye in the back. Nice transition and integration of aromas. Taste is bitter resin immediately in the tongue, along with the rye bread and semi sweet caramel notes of the malt. The rye really spices up the back, leading to a dry, crisp finish. The taste is a bit brasher than the nose, and a tick less integrated - though I thought this really help the rye shine. Palate is medium, normal carbonation levels and a really clean unfiltered feel to it. Nice one, thanks Santa.
