COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When the railroad was completed between Madison and Milwaukee in 1882, mucky soils in the glacial swamp near Lake Mills made the tracks most unsteady. A bridge-tender stood guard, 24 hours-a-day, to warn oncoming trains of the danger ahead and caution them to slow their pace. One engineer chose not to heed this warning and the locomotive lost control and tumbled off the bridge into the mud below. The train is said to be forever entombed deep in the muck along the present day Glacial Drumlin trail. We brew Down ‘n Dirty Chocolate Oatmeal Stout thick and black like the glacial muck.

12 oz bottle pours a dark brown/opaque black with small tan head and a few spots of lacing. Aroma is full of roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, and a touch of molasses. Taste is sweet but not too sweet, with some nuts in the finish. Body is medium to full, not as thich as I had expected. Has lively carbonation. Mouthfeel is slighly oily. A very good oatmeal stout I won’t hesitate to try again.

A very smooth oatmeal or milk stout. Nice sweetness, not too sweet tho. Nice flavors of chocolate, coffee, molasses, and vanilla. A very tasty brew indeed

Serving: 12 oz. bottle via trade from madbeerbaron. It pours black with a huge, creamy, light tan head. The nose has nice roasted malt, dark chocolate, and light coffee notes. A little thinner on the tongue than I was expecting. A fair bit of roasted malt with light coffee and even lighter chocolate notes. Subtle earth comes out as it warms. A little slick on the tongue with a medium finish. Decent.

12 oz. bottle got in a trade with Queenholly. Dark brown, with some ruby highlights with fast fading, tan head. Taste is chocolate with a nice oat presence. Cocoa powder and coffee notes. Slightly creamy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Light lactose sugar and a touch of bittersweet chocolate in the finish. Somewhat dry on the palate. Really well-crafted brew.

Bottle. Coffee, chocolate, peaty oat aroma. Black brown with a large tan head, moderate lacing. Coffee, chocolate, ash, and roasty bitter flavor. Medium body, light carbonation. Nice.

Poured a dark chocolate brown with an off white tan head which dissipated quickly. Aroma hits you up front with oatmeal followed by roasted malts. The chocolate comes forward a little as it warms. The taste is roasted malts up front followed by bitter chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium and silky smooth.

Poured into an American pint glass. Pours extremely dark opaque brown, looks thick. Two fingers of creamy beige head, thick and smooth on top, with big coarse bubbles on the bottom. Nose is chocolaty and milky, it actually smells a lot like Left Hand Milk Stout. A bitter malty flavor, with a very subtle chocolate note. If I had not read the bottle, I would assume this was just an oatmeal stout. Medium bodied, kind of thin and slick, not my favorite texture for a stout, with a nice long bitter aftertaste. A good beer, but not something I would go out of my way to find.

Bottle from trade with Crajun. Pours a dark black color with a small head that quickly fades. Very nice aroma of cocoa, caramel, light roasted coffee, and a hint of smoke. Taste is slightly sweet, slight bitterness. Nice balance of cocoa, bitter chocolate, coffee and smoke. Fairly thick mouthfeel, smooth and somewhat creamy. Really nice stout. I’m a fan.

Thanks to GatorGuy92 for sharing this one. Cheers, Matt! Pours a porter brown color with a tan head. Nose is roasted malts, some chocolate, some roasted coffee, and some earthy cocoa. Flavor is similar- roasted malts, cocoa, chocolate, mild hops that leave almost as coffee bitterness. Medium in body and nice overall.
