When the railroad was completed between Madison and Milwaukee in 1882, mucky soils in the glacial swamp near Lake Mills made the tracks most unsteady. A bridge-tender stood guard, 24 hours-a-day, to warn oncoming trains of the danger ahead and caution them to slow their pace. One engineer chose not to heed this warning and the locomotive lost control and tumbled off the bridge into the mud below. The train is said to be forever entombed deep in the muck along the present day Glacial Drumlin trail. We brew Down ‘n Dirty Chocolate Oatmeal Stout thick and black like the glacial muck.

Poured a dark chocolate brown with an off white tan head which dissipated quickly. Aroma hits you up front with oatmeal followed by roasted malts. The chocolate comes forward a little as it warms. The taste is roasted malts up front followed by bitter chocolate. Mouthfeel is medium and silky smooth.

Pours a dark brown almost black like oil with similar viscosity and khaki colored head. Chocolate, and lots of it, oats, and a little roast on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied and nice mouthfeel. Finishes with more chocolate and a nice balance of bitterness and sweetness.

Pours black with a medium khaki head that leaves very little lacing in the glass. Aroma is dark fruit and chocolate. Taste is full of dark chocolate and a pinch of fig. Has a bitter front end on the tongue but dissipates quickly in a flourish of chocolate. This is a finely crafted stout.

Very dark brown color with a rich and creamy, lasting tan head. Roasted malt and dark chocolate dominate the aromas, I think that is right where it should be. Hints of oatmeal only solidify the scents. Thick and creamy feel. Hints of dark caramel in the front. Roasted malts and extra dark chocolate work their way in mid quaff. A bit meaty at time. Still a solid stout. 2/10

Bottle. Deep black with very thin tan head. Aromas of chocolate, and dark roasted chicory with a hint of vanilla. Taste is creamy chocolate and dark roasted malt. Full bodied and creamy on the palate with light carbonation. Very satisfying.

Bittle. The pour is dark with little top. The aroma is a chocolate malt bomb. The taste is just a solid stout that I could drink all day. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

dark brown pour with a tan head, nice lacing. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt. vanilla. Flavour is nice milk chocolate, sweet slick mouthfeel, very smooth chocolate and lighter roast coffee bean. Flavours and alc are well blended, the sweetness is lightly balanced by the roasted flavour and very drinkable.

A little harsh aftertaste and not too thick, but pretty chocolatey. Pretty good stuff.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on my company holiday from home. Appearance is a creamy pitch black with a light tan head that laces to the glass. Aroma is rich in chocolate, lactose, light smoke, light vanilla, and oats. Taste is pretty good, chocolate, licorice, oil like consistency, doesn’t feel too rich, definitely enjoyable. Another good one from this great brewery.
