Elizavyeta (104), Minnesota, USA May 23, 2008 Richly amber colored with a thick off white head, giving off a somewhat butterscotch-like aroma with toasty accents.
Overall flavor is considerably lighter than expected, with a fruity and somewhat watery aspect. The finish is pleasant enough, but quickly dissipates from the palate leaving a sweet, if somewhat light flavor.
Due to its lightness, it would make a great pair to grilled chicken and potato salad on a picnic.
BrotherGrendel (186), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Oct 4, 2008 Aroma- Clean rich sweet toast and grainy malt aroma, light peppery and perfumy hops, no diacetyl.
Appearance-Deep copper with amber highlights, brilliant clarity, light creamy off-white head mostly dissipates.
Flavor- Clean crisp malts balanced with a lighter grassy hop bitterness, light chalk tones, bread, toast and caramel malts at the start slowly transition to nutty tones, light mineral and yeasty tones near the end, finishes bitter with sweet nutty flavors, minimal light fruit esters, no diacetyl.
Mouthfeel- Medium-bodied, smooth texture, moderate-high carbonation.
Overall- A well-balanced malt-forward German-style ale with complimentary hop bitterness, the nutty tones are quite prominent here and reminiscent of brown ales, very easy-drinking with no discernible flaws.
