The Painted Ladies Annual Fling celebrates the renaissance of downtown Lake Mills. Although named for the restoration of the many Victorian storefronts, some of the more adventurous women-folk added a playful twist and dressed as, well, painted ladies. Inspired by these bold and spicy women, we brewed Painted Ladies, a pumpkin and spice-infused amber ale. This fall, make sure you enjoy a fling with a few Painted Ladies.

Aroma of pumpkin, nutmeg, and other spices. Color is a clear tan-orange with a small white head. Flavors of spiced malts and some sweetness from the pumpkin. Overall, it is pretty smooth, but nicely contrasted with various spices.

I picked this up from Archer Liquors in Chicago, IL, enjoyed during week 6 of the NFL season - Seahawks vs. Bears. This is a good one - a definitive fall beer. Appearance is a clear orange / pumpkin amber with a thin head. Aroma of pumpkin spices and roasty malts, but the pumpkin aroma dissipates after a couple of minutes. Taste is relatively creamy and not too carbonated, more of a malt backing with touches of pumpkin and spice. Good, enjoyable fall weather brew.

amber pour with a thin head. aroma is malty, pumpkiny, light spice but itís definitely there. more of the spice in the flavour. Not overpowering thought. Clove, nutmeg...medium sweet maltiness is very graham crackery with the spice. Light bitterness to the finish keeps itís balance.

Hoping for a pumpkin spiced ale similar to Weyerbacherís, but was slightly disappointed. Pours reddish brown with off-white head that diminishes are a few minutes. Nose is only mild pumpkin with a slight nutty note. Taste is a bit nutty wild only subtle pumpkin flavor that comes at the finish. Not a lot of spices, but a drinkable beer nonetheless.

Bottle thanks to Sarah! Poured a clear amber orange with a near white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma was full of pumpkin and spice with a bit of a grain backbone. Flavor was similar with a strong pumpkin note and growing spice.

On tap at brewery, pours adark amber gold color with a nice white head and lacing in the glass, the aroma is full of spices and sweetness, the taste truly reminds me of a fresh pumpkin pie out of the oven, spices are nice but balanced at the same time, very enjoyable.

bottle by way of bocky on 1/24/10. fairly dark and clear reddish amber with a creamy pale khaki colored head. it smells of caramel, earth and pumpkin pie spices (ginger, clove, cinnamon). it tastes like supermarket brand cooked pumpkin pie filling mixed with mineral water, skunky hops, caramel, earth and a mustiness akin to lager yeast with a mild spice filled bitterness (similar to tea or tannins) before a crisp finish. it has a biscuit-like astringency and a caramel-y pumpkin aftertaste mixed with iced tea florals. medium bodied and crisp with a nice creaminess. 6/4/6/3/14/3.3

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2010 This is one of those spice ales thatís at least as much spice as it is ale. Itís good though and actually rather well constructed. It pours a heavily hazed dark amber color and has a small head of very fine bubbles. The nose is just about as spicy as it gets and is just generally dominated by nutmeg and ginger though a bit of nutty malt character does peek out from behind the spice. I would have panned this beer as one dimension had Tyranena not done a good job w/ the mouthfeel. Itís smooth and sweet w/ a gentle cushion of carbonation to keep things drinkable. Itís worth mentioning too that this beer, I think, was on the shelf for months probably before I got it but itís still a nice beer along the lines of Anchor Our Special Ale and a treat even in the middle of summer.
