Pours maroon to brownish with a malty browl ale like toasty, caramel, and vanilla malt. Taste is somewhat mild however, and while good, I got no indication of bourbon, but some tart, bitter brown ale like malt. Some bittering hops playing a part in the taste to balance. Drinkable, but not one of Tyranena’s better brews.
BuckeyeSammy (341), New York City, New York, USA Jul 10, 2008 Brown color with a light head and nice lacing. Too thin. Sweet caramel, malt nose. Sweet flavor, toffee and malt, oak. sleepylopes (264), New York, USA Jul 10, 2008 struck by the apparence the carb clings to the glass like a much lighter beer. cake batter butter and vanilla aroma with undertones of bourbon and malt. a bit more bitter in the finish than 30 ibus would suggest. its a bit thin but it has the batter rich flavor with malt and booz. Baumgartner (32), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA Jul 1, 2008 Bottle poured to glass. No head from the start. Toffee and cherry like aroma with a cloudy brown brew. Slight acidic and bitter coffee like taste followed by a fairly dry finish, almost a slight burnt chalk taste. Not very impressed. EHopper (80), Minnesota, USA Jun 29, 2008 Dark, dark carmel color. Sweet malt aroma. There is a flavor that is very distinct, that though it is the major flavor, is something I can’t place. It is something from a bakery, or a candy store, but not overly sweet. It is so cool to find a new flavor that does not seem to relate to anything that I need to try again just to see if I can’t identify further ( I am going to over-rate so I try again). Otherwise, this is a good tasting brown beer with a dry finish. nimbleprop (551), Washington, Washington DC, USA Jun 25, 2008 Scored this in a trade with Scubarex. Many thanks! 12oz bottle pours a translucent, deep brown with a thin, lacing beige head. Aroma is very sweet and inviting, sugary with a cookie edge, nuts, caramel and vanilla. Flavor is even better with MORE cookie dough, vanilla and chewy caramel but also a kick of bourbon whiskey, molasses, toffee and nuts. Finish is slightly dry, but very easy going. Not your average brown ale, something quite a bit more complex in flavor and more enjoyable.
