3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nearly clear copper to hazelnut pour with a 1 finger, off white head. Aroma is sweet fruity and floral citrus, light pine, light grapefruit, toast, caramel, toffee, grass and biscuit. Flavor is deep caramel, some toffee and biscuit up front giving way to hay, planty hops, lots of sweet and bitter citrus, grass, pine, toast and fruity yeast. Medium body, off dry throughout and lightly carbonated. Good stuff, nice example of a complex, but citrus and caramel forward IPA.

Draft. The pour is a faint orange. The aroma is mostly mild hops. The taste I don't much orange from until the very end. A little too bitter.

On tap at the brewpub. Comes a clear golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of citrus and malt. Taste is oranges, grapefruit, and malt. Not to complex, but very drinkable.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a pale, clear orange with a finger of lingering white head. Smell is mandarin oranges, bready malt, and citrusy hops. Tastes like somebody put a clementine orange into my beer, grassy hops, decent pale malt backbone. Not particularly complex but fairly refreshing.

I catch mostly orange peel in the aroma, though there are some hops just behind that. The head is off white and sticks to the glass for quite awhile. The body is a pleasant golden amber. The taste surprised me as I expected to encounter more of that orange flavor. It did not happen, but something else did. The orange peel balances the bitterness in the hops, leaving a clean taste, though somewhat richer than the brew’s appearance. Hop heads will like this very much, though the ones that like a strong bitterness in the hops will be disappointed. The palate is treated to a thick oily quality, leaving an aftertaste of orange peel that has the potential to become annoying in a session. Overall, it is well done and fans of IPA’s should give it a try.

Bottle with Keith. Dated April, so 3 months old...pours copper with small clearish white head, not much lace. Notes of old hops, copper, vanilla, cheese, rye and lots of sweet malt. This might have been good a couple months ago...might have.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours orange with a thin off-white head. Citrusy aroma with orange and grapefruit notes. Hoppy flavor with some dankness. The initial flavor is oranges then the grapefruit comes in at the finish. Crisp clean mouthfeel with moderate to high carbonation. The finish is fairly dry with just a slight residual hoppiness lingering on the back of the tongue.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at the brewpub. I’d say it’s a half shade darker than their Bitter Woman IPA. Side by side, I’d say this also a bit heavier in mouthfeel, but has about the same citric acidity, pleasant enough drink ability. (#5102, 7/2/2013)

Pours a copper orange with lasting white head and great lacing. Aroma is citrus hops with orange zest as expected. Not out-of-this-world, but it works well. Taste is even better. It starts out sweet up front with a full malt flavor, but only for a few seconds. Just before it gets too cloying, the fruity citrusy hops cut through with some great bitterness. Some dankness comes through to keep things from being too resiny, but the bitterness remains there through the dry finish. Really balanced. Every time I worried it would go south, it redeemed itself with control and balance. Flavorful and full. Much different than my other high-rated IPAs, but this is deserving of it’s high scores.
