3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle
This is an excellent scotch ale; I am not sure why it has taken so long for me to rate except that I keep missing it being in season. If you are a fan of Wisconsinís craft breweries or good beer in general do yourself a service - get a four/six pack of Tyranena today.
Aroma / Appearance - Bronze with a carbonated base the dense head makes it look like this was shipped with a piece of packing foam to keep it from harm. Toasted bread crumbs, caramel, and traces of sourdough warm the senses. The dusty feel contains mostly malts although hops are evident as well.
Flavor / Palate - Caramel, apple cider, crumbs of Twix frozen overnight, and a sweet finish tickle the palate. The finish sticks around for a while to convince further sips. Eventually it fades a few minutes after the final sip. This is a fine beer that is so well balanced two or three might sneak up on you.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Deep red/amber in color. Aroma of green coffee, roast malt, toasted malt, some mild fruit, and an odd sweet nuttiness. Roasted and toasted malt, caramel, and again, that odd nutty character that draws out roasted and lightly dry. Medium body, yet a bit of a syrupy, sweet end. Just not working for me.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Creamy, redish-orange with a roasted smoke fruit flavor, and it was surprisingly full bodied. A very smooth and drinkable scotch ale, and a nice non-hoppy beer that still had tons of character.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
poured from bottle into a tulip. Dark copper colored with no real head to it
Rich and pungent aromas of malts, coffee, liqueur, and some hot caramel as well
full bodied with a rich feel. Almost feels like a stout, but still a scotch ale. The feel is really good along with flavors of roasted malts, coffee, and caramel
Does have a stout quality to it, but thatís not really a negative. The feel is really good and the aromas are really good as well. This is a quality scotch ale and shows no booziness that they sometimes can do

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Fresh 12 oz. Bottle - Pours an amber/reddish with some tan lacing sticking to the sides. Looks very unassuming. Aroma is maltiness, toffee, and HUGE caramel - not really much else, but it smells great. Taste is huge caramel maltiness, toffee, some bready overtones, some sweetness on the finish - virtually no bitterness whatsoever. Perhaps a tiny little bit of heat on the very, very end - but all and all - the ABV is hidden very well. Sweet, malty beers are one of my least favorites - but this beer manages to be a huge malt bomb without being anywhere near cloying and the lighter body makes it dangerously drinkable. Highly recommended.
