2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 raymondwave (931) - FINLAND - DEC 9, 2006
UPDATED: DEC 15, 2007 At the Zum Uerige. I was a little disappointed with this after reading about it first. Very hoppy bitter and yeasty. Felt a little unfinished and home made to me. Mouthfeel was nice with good carbonation. Nice thirst quencher, but nothing more really. Travel 100 meters for Zum Schlussel for a better housebrewed alt. Re-rate, flip top bottle 0.33 l. Signifcantly less yeasty and earthy than at the brewpub. Flavor is nicely bitter, but not much more. It’s a blueprint alt, good and very enjoyable, but lacks depth.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Quixote18 (230) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - DEC 4, 2006
Poured from bottle into shaker glass, it had a cloudy, dark amber body that developed almost no head. The aroma was slightly grainy, with some crisp, but mild hops. Flavor was dry and hoppy with maybe a little woodiness in there. This may have been an old bottle, I’ll be willing to give this one another try if I can find it at a different bottle shop.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 GoBlue (103) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - NOV 24, 2006
At the brewpub. Very dark amber to deep red in color, thick lasting head. Rich malt aroma with a slight hop undertone. Strong hop bitterness outdoes the malt, but it is still present. Dry almost chalky finish with lingering bitterness. Somewhat light in body, could use a little more malt to balance the bitterness.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 porterhouse (1479) - Alna, Maine, USA - NOV 10, 2006
(330 ml bottle (bottled on "25.11.", "code 12 25" from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/auburn/fl target=blank>Florian’s) OK but certainly not on par with either Sticke or Doppelsticke...Pours murky orange/brown tea color with a tall light tan head. Aroma is very light vanilla sweetness with a bit of brown sugar. Mouthfeel kind of watery but soft and smooth. A bit dry in finish. Spotty webby lacing. Flavor is light brown sugary but not very sweet. Lingering bitter finish. Quite bland really.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BeerandBlues2 (5594) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - NOV 8, 2006
Burnt orange and clear, flat with an average frothy white head, mostly diminishing with fair lacing. Aroma is moderate malt (light bread, grain, cereal, husks), light hops (herbs, grass), light yeast (soap, mold) with notes of pear, butter, dust and soured milk. Initial flavor is heavy acidic and bitter, light sweet malt and hop with trace yeast, finish is long, light sweetness, moderate acidity and heavy bitterness. Light to medium bodied, oily texture with soft carbonation and a metallic mouthfeel.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 HopheadHans (789) - Bay Area, California, USA - NOV 3, 2006
Tap at Uerige. Et leckere droepje. Typical Alt bier that is overrated inmy opinion.Aroma is ok, you have predominatly malt, flavors are complemnetd by hops that leads to a bitter finish. A session beer for sure, but nothing spectacular.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 frizzzzle (76) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - OCT 30, 2006
Pours a brown-ish color, with a medium head. The smell is slightly funky, and I can’t place it very well.. Leather, maybe? The flavor makes less of an impression than the smell. It’s dry overall, but doesn’t have a very powerful flavor at all. Mouthfeel is slightly watery, and the finish is dry. I’m not entirely impressed by this one, but the flip-top bottle is cool as heck.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 Bov (7098) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - OCT 21, 2006
courtesy of Laurent Mousson - clear amber colour with a fine beige head and a nice lace; peppery and earthy aroma, light notes of cherry in the background; some tartness, medium-bodied, slightly oily and with a solid bitterness; very dry fruity and nutty finish - this is a damned good altbier !
