Nice white creamy head and thick spotty lacing. Aroma is slightly sweet and dark. Pears, raisons apples. Flavor is woody, dry and with some of the same flavors. Quite bitter and a fine and lively carbonation. Aftertaste is bore bitterness. MoritzF (5130), Bochum, Germany
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 15, 2005 As it is named after a freaky former owner of the brewery, it is the most polarising Alt in Düsseldorf. Wonderfull roughly taste, spicy, hoppy and malty at the same time. Many people like it, some hate it. I just love it. ontario102 (794), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 26, 2005 Bottle(d) (on 03.09{05?]): yeasty, spicey hopped nose; pours with very little head over a burnt-copper body; I’m not catching much initially, but the bitter, fruity hopping pulls through eventually; some mild musty and earthiness and maltiness; moderate body; substantialy bitter and bone dry finish; a tad more maltiness would help alot, otherwise a quality brew from the fatherland. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 24, 2005 Dark amber color, frothy off-white head. Malty aroma, moderately hoppy, with nuts as well. Chewy cookie sweetness as first, some berries, quickly taken over by a sharp bitterness and a nearly-burnt-toast edge. A little off-kilter and unbalanced, but different at least. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 15, 2005 Brown Coloring with White Head. Grassy Aroma. Dusty Malt Notes...Some Hops Towards the End. Average Brew...Nothing Solidly Fantastic About it... Ernest (4515), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 15, 2005 Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly
lasting. Body is hazy medium to dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty
(toasted bread, roasted nuts), lightly hoppy (herbs, flowers), lightly
yeasty
(dough), with light notes of raisin and plum. Flavor is moderately
sweet, moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, heavily bitter.
Light to medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation.
Pleasant, maybe a little too much yeast in the aroma for my liking (when
I’ve had it on draught in Duesseldorf it seemed even more yeasty). Nice
and toasty/crusty otherwise, though, with a nifty fruity character.
Quite bitter, perhaps even to the point of being unbalanced. Good, not
great. DrnkMcDermott (1873), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 7, 2005 Bottle dated 14 April. I’m spending my Super Bowl watching time enjoing this and <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/uerige-sticke/21 Sticke. I find this actually has more character. Pours a rocky head, which remains as chunks of foam on the sides of the glass. Deep copper in color, highly malty and hoppy smell. taste is of caramel malts, then a Super-size dose of German hops. It’s like a German IPA; the biggest smack of hops I’ve in a German beer. It’s a highly entertaining total beer experience. jollyraider (252), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 6, 2005 WTF mate. Is this an alt? Other than the crazy bottle I don’t really know what to say. The hops/malt combo was pretty nice. It was vague where the malt stopped and the hops started.
