Bottle. Poured brown with a quick, thin off-white head. Aromas of dark fruit, spice, and a caramel backing. The flavor has raisin, prune, roast, caramel and hints of spice. Medium body and sweet with hints of hoppy bitterness.

11.2 oz swing-top bottle. Pours a dark copper color with a good head and nice lacing. Mild aroma of roasted malt and some caramel. A bit of fruit and hint of grain. Aroma blossoms as it warms. Flavor of roasted malt, bit of caramel sweetness, hint of spice and chocolate. A nice subtle bitterness and a dry finish. Fairly medium body, smooth and creamy. Very well balanced. A very easy drinking beer. A great example of the style. Well worth checking this one out.

Scopey (1179) - Croydon, Surrey, ENGLAND - DEC 11, 2011
Bottle at Kernel with Nate & Toby. It pours dark amber/brown, with a thick beige head. The nose is nail varnish remover, sweet fruit, caramel and bubblegum. The taste is nail varnish remover, metal, dark fruit, cardboard, wood, caramel, roasted malt and bubblegum, with a long dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. So-so.

Cloudy metallic brown with touch of orange and medium-large tan head. Aroma kind of muted, somewhat stale malts and faint caramel. Smooth, medium-light body. Flavor is rye bread malty, bitter hoppy finish, surprisingly crisp and easy to gulp down. I feel like maybe the bottle I got was not the best, maybe better fresher, will reassess if appropriate.

Aroma of stale cheese. Odd stale flavour, but it is an altbier, so that figures, I suppose.

When it comes to alt there are few better. Pours a dark garnet with a frothy off white head and good lacing. Aroma is malt that is so rich it’s like a dirty sock. Taste has a full mouthfeel of malt, slight cinnamon and an aftertaste of a small hop bitterness. Great beer.

Caramel and roasty nose. Pours dark brown from bottle, opaque with light brown, frothy head. Mildly sweet up front with moderate effervescence, with medium bitter finish. My first altbier. It tastes like a strong ale and a pilsner had a baby.

On tap at the brewery. First beer of the day. Clear, copper body. Abundant, frothy, meringue-like head is off-white and hangs around forever. Very clingy and paints on the lace. Lightly spicy hop aroma with some toasty, rich malt underneath. Munich malt flavors - toasty and some biscuit. Mild, floral hop flavor. Very light estery fruitiness comes through after a few swigs. Balance is definitely on the bitter side...similar to an APA as far as BU:GU. Firm bitterness with a pleasant sweetness peaking through. Bitterness hangs around through the finish. Light carbonation keeps the beer easy drinking. Overall and excellent beer that I could drink all day long! Perfect complement to a Mettbrötchen!
