COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

blackisle (973) - IJburg, NETHERLANDS - JAN 28, 2015
Swing top bottle 11.2 fl.oz. Poured into a Kölsch glass. Nearly opaque dark brown with red copper hue, big and stable creamy beige head, recedes slowly to a thick layer that remains, good lacing; very complex aroma, strong roasted malts nose, caramel, brown sugar, portwine, dried dark fruits (raisins, dates, figs), cocoa, coffee, cinnamon, cloves; taste is heavy sweet and slightly bitter, roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark fruit syrup; full body, slick texture, soft carbonation, aftertaste malty sweetbitter, more earthy bitter and peppery notes in the finish, bit alcohol; overall a very rich beer, strong but well-balanced.

Svesse (6716) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - JAN 20, 2015
(Bottle) Dark brown colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, slightly vinous nose with dark bread, dried fruit, burnt rubber, sweet liquorice and a touch of tar. Malty, roasted taste with black rye bread, dried fruit, raisins, liquorice, caramel, some coffee, a hint of soy sauce and a balanced spicy bitterness. Almost full body, with a slightly oily mouthfeel. Fairly sweet. Tasty and quite powerful, still fairly well balanced. As close to a barley-wine style alt as you could get. Very nice.

westler (89) - Stuttgart, GERMANY - JAN 20, 2015
Hazy, dark brown. Light brown, small head. Intense scent of raisins, dried fruit and bee wax. Smooth mouth feel, low carbonation. Starting with some dark malty sweetness, dried fruit, some ripe cheese, evolving to a mighty bitter finish with some sweet-sour notes. A really great beer, comparable to some great belgium brews.

Not bad, not familiar with the style in general. Very little malty sweetness and bitterness. In general, normal

EtTuCthulhu (1236) - Columbia, Missouri, USA - JAN 13, 2015
The beer pours an opaque brown color with a small off-white head, and the aroma blends toasted malt, earthiness, basement aromas, and grains. The taste is mildly sour, slightly umami, and a touch bitter with an aftertaste that is somewhat grainy and toasty. The palate fuses a slick texture, medium body, and a soft carbonation.

Deep amber to brown colour. Cool special caramel aroma with light nuts notes maybe. Very reach malty taste with reisin, caramel, and nuts is balanced with noble european hop bitterness especially in aftertaste where you can feel grass and herbs. This beer is really great one! Close trappist quad or strong dubbel (like westmalle).

Malzig, Lakritz, Karamellig, angebrannter Zucker. Recht trocken im Abgang, ein interessantes Bier.

Cloudy brown color, minimal off-white head. Aroma of dark fruits, berries, malt and caramel. Very pleasant taste which is similar to aroma; dark fruits, some brown sugar, even oaky notes and some spices. A bit boozy. Medium to heavy sweetness. Full bodied with creamy texture and soft carbonation. Great.

Bottle. Pours a dark auburn brown with a small, stylish, beige head. Aroma is very malty, quite a bit of rye, sweet malt syrup, dark fruit, some chocolate. Taste is very malty, dark malt bread, some rye, little syrup, small alcohol. Caramel, semi-dry, some roast, quite resinous finish. Some chocolate. Fairly low carbonation.

Bottle. An unclear, brown beer with a small, beige head that lasts. The aroma is biscuity, roasted and bready, with licorice and heavy caramel sauce. Some alcohol. It’s full-bodied and warming, lightly sticky on the palate, with a good bitterness. Perhaps a bit heavy on the palate, but sure tasteful. Roasted malts, chocolate, caramel sauce, nuts, bread crust and quite a lot of hoppyness. Resiny, almost mint-like. Warming alcohol too. Lasting roasted finish with a good sweetness, but sure enough not bitterness and alcohol to deal with it. A flavorful, lovely beer that I would very much like to repeat. Unbalanced, in a balanced way. Lovely. 141231
