COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

(Bottle, 0.33 l - bottled on 06/13 - BB 06/14, from Systembolaget, 20140315) The beer poured deep dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, molasses and dark fruits. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, alcohol, treacle, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste had malts, sweetness, alcohol and bitterness. A surprisingly boozy for a doppelboc; more like an American Barley Wine.

Correction (the wrong beer was rated, software I was using to identify the beer was incorrect) Aroma - is sweet of alcohol, sugars, vanilla, and roast. Appearance - is very dark almost black, and the head is white. The head settles, and stays about a quarter inch. Beautiful appearance Taste - first off it’s sweet. If you don’t care for sweet, it’s hard to stay objective. However, there is also a bitter finish to it. It has a burnt sugar alcohol flavor to it. Potent, not for everyone. Very similar to a Doppelbock. Feel is full, texture is sticky, carbonation is average, and the finish is long and strong. This is my 1st Altbier, not a style I think I’m in love with, but I can say I tried it. It is sweet, I’m not sure if that is indicative of the style. This one definitely was. It’s a sipper for sure. 3.9 ~ you sunday, january 12, 2014

Smells like vanilla and dried fruit. Malt forward taste, I get chocolate and cherries and maybe a hint of red wine, but with bitter hops and alcohol at the end. VERY good beer.

4 finger beige/mocca-colored head, brown body with some red. Nose: Madeira, raisins, resin, plum, prunes, dates, marzipan and chocolate. Aroma: Dates, prunes, a light alcohol-burn, milk-chocolate, resin, raisins, madeira, nuts, malt, caramel, grapefruit, plum and marzipan. Semi-long, semi-bitter ending with a lot of sweetness.

Bottle shared with northropfrye. Oh, it tastes like dried fruit and lemonade with a bitter finish. Matled something or other. Smells very much like raisins. Very thick and opaque. Slightly boozy at the beginning. I would like to drink a lot more of this.

Dark maroon brown body with off white head, some lacing. Really nice aroma of sweet malts, chocolate, dried fruit, vanilla, earthiness, slight vinous tart element. Taste is sweet but with a nice roasted bitterness to complement in the sweetness. Definitely on the sweet side but that roastiness really balances this out nicely. Abv fairly well masked. Overall a fabulous beer.
