Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

A- Pours a deep brownish ruby color with a small, fizzy, brown head. S- Chocolate, burnt caramel, toast, hints of raisin. T- Caramel, hints of deep, dark, maltiness, fig, raisin, plum. M- Thick with ample carbonation. D- Really enjoyed this brew. Much more body and character than the typical alt. Highly recommended.

2/V/14 - 33cl bottle @ ThirstyBird’s place - bottled: VII/2011, BB: VI/2012 (2014-469) Thanks to ThirstyBird for sharing the bottle!

Dark brown beer, small creamy beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of chocolate, some mocha, dried fruits, little dusty, cocoa powder, alcohol, vanilla notes, bit ages and oxidized, but nothing negative about that. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots of chocolate, dried fruits, prunes, bit hoppy, caramel, sweet, some mocha. Aftertaste: pretty bitter, dark chocolate, some vanilla, raisins, pruntes, bit dusty, alcohol, caramel, sweet ending. Developed into a really beautiful and lovely beer, holy cow!

I will be goddamned. Pours very dark beautiful ruby with a thick khaki dome that settles slowly and leaves some waves of foamy lace. Nose involves deep malty sweetness, brown sugar, dark fruit, vinous beauty, some light earthy and spicy hops, caramelized sugar, port wine, toasted malt, alky vapes. Excellently sweet, bitter enough to offer an attempt at balance. Full bodied, quite oily, viscous, rich, softer carb, with a drying toasty voluptuous finish. A bit oxidized? Maybe. A bit chunky? Sure. Best beer I’ve ever fucking had? You bet your honky ass.

Can’t believe I haven’t rated this before. Bottle purchased at Monument in Concord, CA. The aroma on this is sweet, nutty, caramel, and nougat. Lightly vinous, too. Weird aroma. Modestly hazy amber body with a smallish light tan head present. Starts almost smoky, burnt before some sweet and caramel malts come through in the middle. Fairly caramel-like in the middle. Some light cardboard oxidation, too. Finishes lightly warming. This is ok, but seems a little sweet, sticky, and oxidized.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Very malty smell with toffee and dried fruit. Very sweet and malty taste. Very nice to lean back and sip at, like a german barley wine.

Very dark cloudy brown, medium beige head. Dark, caramel aroma, big bready boozy malts. Dark roast, and nutiness. This is very similar to a big thick syrupy e glish barley wine. The finish is medium bitter, with an interesting unexpected pine resin flavor. A great sipper.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - bottled on 06/13 - BB 06/14, from Systembolaget, 20140315) The beer poured deep dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, molasses and dark fruits. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, alcohol, treacle, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste had malts, sweetness, alcohol and bitterness. A surprisingly boozy for a doppelboc; more like an American Barley Wine.
