Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

Bottle from Willows Market in Menlo Park, CA. Big boozy nose with notes of sweet liqueurs, bourbon, malts, caramel, licorice. Taste is sweet with an awesome bitter finish. This is a thick mister.

Bottle at home from Biervana, Munich, 12th September 15. Pours almost black, deep brown. Aroma is complex, caramel, banana, spice, molasses. Taste is rich dark fruit, sweet at first, caramelised banana, spice, liquorice, but great bitter hop kick on the finish. Excellent

Boozy, nice aroma, hard to drink. Heavy beer, like bear. Hard alt. It is a german art, german interpretation of barley wine. Good for october fest and late autumn. Too rare. Hard to find. Its a little bit smoked, but has fruity, liquiory notes. Fantastic beer but not my style .

It pours murky mahogany with copper highlights; the head is bone coloured and mousse like. The aroma has notes of: dark rye bread, fruit cake, molasses, and raisins. The taste is medium sweet that finishes heavy bitter; there are notes of: raisins, dark rum, pumpernickel, grapefruit zest, and citrus pith. The palate is full bodied and has light carbonation; the mouth feel is sticky with a long bitter finish. Overall, a great interpretation of the barely wine style.

Bottle @ home. Pours a dark brown liquid with a beige small head. Sweet and lightly vinous aroma with loads of maltiness raisins, plums, caramel. Taste is full bodied and with a duration that resembles madness. Fantastic. Flavors of nuts, caramel, syrup, herbs, malt, and ...

From bottle, Brewed in 2008, bottled 10.08, tasted on 15.06

Aroma: big fruits, sweet, figs, caramel, figs, very nice

Appearance: dark amber, near brown, very small tan head

Taste: Very alcoholic and warming. Somewhat chewy like a dopplebock. Very heavy.
Palate: medium to fully, oily, soft carbonation, bitter finish

Overall: Very complex. I picked this bottle up as a Dussledorf Alt-bier for BJCP tasting from my local bevy and didn’t notice it was a dopplesticke. It was incredibly complex and very warming/alcoholic, but not overly alcoholic. Everyone mentioned it was like a barelywine, but I enjoyed this much more than any American barelywine that I’ve had. I’m saving another bottle for winter - I expect this to taste great around the fireplace.
