Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

Bottle from Uerige Brauerei. Thin white head, vanishes quick. Deep malt and chocolate aroma, paired with a hint of fresh hops. Some chocolate flavors, malt is overwhelming in this, just to the point, in which fresh carbonation steps in, which gives you a refreshing feeling. In the end alcohol is present for a short moment, but gets wrapped up by the long staying malt. This has a really intense taste for a german alt, malt is really dominating my tongue. The hoppy freshness from the aroma comes out just little bit, but is at no moment stronger than the malt. It just adds a decent bitterness to the established taste of big malts, which creates a nice complexity.Long malty ending. While the "Uerige Sticke" has still lots of hops in it (compared to the "Schumacher Latzenbier"), the "Doppelsticke" is really a complex malt-bomber. There is no other "Alt" in Duesseldorf with such an intense taste. Impressive.

This is something I have looked for a long time.
Deep ruby color, small off-white head. Malty, some hops and caramel. Medium-bodied. Sticky, sweet, caramelly and malty. Sweet and also alcoholic. Almost barleywineish.

Opens with a real PLOP, much better than anything of the kind I’ve heard. Pours cloudy dark amber with stable, creamy beige head. Dark aroma of fruit, malt and caramel with a subtle dusty touch. Dusty and hoppy onset, gradually giving way to a perfect syphony of caramel malt and fruit, beautifully accompanied by roasty overtones. Bitter and slightly roasty finish. Perfect. I just adore it.

33cl freshish fliptop, danke Thirstybird. Obviously a quality offering with an unfathomable mixed complexity of a barley wine and malty old ale: rich milk chocolate liqeurs, red dried fruits, older molasses mix in with a dry, autumn leave palate and leafy Saphir hop elegance. A lot to experience, taste and admire, a tad harder to love outright. Definitely a post-prandic sipper, probably fit for culinary use and aging.

Dark brown unfiltered pour with an off-white head. Lots of dark fruit on the nose with plenty of malt and notes of yeast. Flavor is big sweet malts with notes of plum, dates, and brown sugar. Very complex. Abv is a bit noticeable but not overwhelming. A respectable offering.
