Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

Rating November 2009. The head is robust, body dark-brown. It smells plum, raisin, darkmalty. The taste is raisin, plum, darkmalty, aromatic, bit alcoholic-creamy, hoppy, interesting. Nice

I had such a good experience with the sticke that I went back and got another variety of this tremendous beer. This one was oxidized and because it was I am not going to do a review but I want to tell about that. The cap on the first beer popped when the seal was loosed. This one made a "fffffft" noise and threw up a bit of fizz. Bad sign I thought. The nose shows a bit of a flatness to the scent that the first one did not have at all. The taste has a bit of cardboard in the middle of the beer. It’s like there is a sour bite just under the beer that does not belong there and the taste of the cardboard is flat. The bitterness that I am tasting may be from the malt and not bad in and of itself but together with this cardboard taste and the bit of sour, this beer is definitely not at it’s best. I am disappointed but I would highly recommend that you try these authentic beers when you see them. One at a time of course so you are not out a fantastic amount of money if they are all bad. There was one more variety of this but I will leave that on the shelf as I think my luck with these has run out.

330ml brown beer bottle with a convenient swing-top cap. Pours cloudy dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of dark bread, prunes, raisins, caramel, muscovado and spices. Taste is light-medium sweet with a medium bitterness. Palate is medium-full bodied, oily texture and medium carbonation. An outstanding tasty and strong Altbier.

A very nice brew. Aromas and flavors are all malt. Strong molasses, rye bread and vanilla aromas. Chewy and thick mouth feel. Great malty, bready, and sweet flavors. Great!

Dark red pour from the bottle. Little to no head. Minimal lacing. Big aroma of plums and dark fruits and brown sugar. Flavor is sweet, plum, raisins, dark fruits, brown sugar, with a distinct bitterness that carries into the finish. This is very much like a barley wine. A big beer that needs to be sipped.

330 ml bottle. 4.06? A gift from Erzengel. Vielen Dank!
Dark reddish brown colour a small light tan head. Sweet malt, brown sugar, hops, mild bitterness and dark fruits in the aroma. The flavour is very sweet... brown sugar, sweet malt, quite strong hoppy bitterness and dark fruitiness. Sticky, sweet and malty. Very Barley Wine like.

Bottle into goblet. To dark to get some good read on the color, thin quickly dissipating head. Intensely sweet nose, malt and sugar. Thick in the mouth, high alcohol sweetness finish. some cleaning hops in the midpallete, but ultimately too cloying for my taste. Not a big beer or barleywine fan though, so that influences how I feel about this.

Bottle from Uerige Brauerei. Thin white head, vanishes quick. Deep malt and chocolate aroma, paired with a hint of fresh hops. Some chocolate flavors, malt is overwhelming in this, just to the point, in which fresh carbonation steps in, which gives you a refreshing feeling. In the end alcohol is present for a short moment, but gets wrapped up by the long staying malt. This has a really intense taste for a german alt, malt is really dominating my tongue. The hoppy freshness from the aroma comes out just little bit, but is at no moment stronger than the malt. It just adds a decent bitterness to the established taste of big malts, which creates a nice complexity.Long malty ending. While the "Uerige Sticke" has still lots of hops in it (compared to the "Schumacher Latzenbier"), the "Doppelsticke" is really a complex malt-bomber. There is no other "Alt" in Duesseldorf with such an intense taste. Impressive.

Uklar mørk brun med minimalt skum.Aroma av stenfrukt. kraftifg og syrlig i smak. Smaken sitter i leeenge. Kjenner godt at denne inneholder 8,5 alkoholprosent. Denne likte jeg godt.
