Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

Bottle, thank potjebier! Deep brown pour with bubbles slowly rising through the viscous liquid to form a thin very creamy off white head. Aroma is intensely matly, rich barley sugar notes, very malty, light toast, definitely some english barleywine notes in here, toffee, caramel. Taste is sweet, lightly boozy. Palate is med-heavy bodied, good carb. Nice.

The color is clear medium amber and there is virtually no head. The aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, light alcoholic, dried dark fruits. The flavor is light heavy sweet with a long duration. The body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is flat. Ompher is a fag. Aftertaste of dried fig/fag

Bottle. Pours a deep brown, near-black murky body with a large creamy, long-lasting off-white head. Nose is mild raisins, caramel, bread dough, grains and hints of licorice and soft herbs. Taste is licorice, caramel, herbs, cough syrup, grains and hints of dark syrup, toffee and brown sugar. Full, creamy body, soft to medium carbonation. Lovely stuff; kind of like a crossover between an imperial stout and a barley wine with a strong herbal profile. Highly enjoyable sipper; weird that the German market has marginalized such a treat over the years. Glad to have it available in Norway.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet’s BU. Pours quite dark brown, with a dense, two centimeter thick, beige head. Prune, dried fruit and lots of alcohol nose. Sweet. Almost no aftertaste. Thick body, soft carbonation. Quite dry ending. Prune, caramel, dried fruit, fruitcake and some hints of herbs. Alcohol is not very well hidden. Closer to an Imperial Stout than an Albier in my opinion. Ending is a bit abrupt.

tfredvik (1463) - Oslo, NORWAY - FEB 9, 2015
Hazy, very deep copper to brown body with a creamy, quite dense, beige head that doesn’t leave much lacing. Sweet, malty and rather strong aroma of caramel, dark dried fruits and alcohol. Strong flavour of caramel, burnt sugar, pine, flowers and soy sauce. Red berries and herbs in the back. Moderate sweet taste and a long-lasting, biting, stinging, herbal, quite heavy bitter finish. Full-bodied, smooth and creamy texture, soft carbonation. A bit too demanding. If I want a hopped sweet beer I prefer a barley wine.
