Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

Hazy, very deep copper to brown body with a creamy, quite dense, beige head that doesn’t leave much lacing. Sweet, malty and rather strong aroma of caramel, dark dried fruits and alcohol. Strong flavour of caramel, burnt sugar, pine, flowers and soy sauce. Red berries and herbs in the back. Moderate sweet taste and a long-lasting, biting, stinging, herbal, quite heavy bitter finish. Full-bodied, smooth and creamy texture, soft carbonation. A bit too demanding. If I want a hopped sweet beer I prefer a barley wine.

My oh my. What a surprise. I was relaxing in the coach and felt for an Altbier. Yeah I have one left. Hah. Opens it and I start imediately to wonder. This do NOT look like an Altbier. Is something wrong? Does not smell like it either. Very unclear brownish color with a fine off white head. And what an aroma. Bready, fruitcake and some yest. Altbier…..ehhh I had to check ratebeer. What is it with this one. Aha other fellow ratebberians says the same thing. This is more a altwine. Full body. Tad sweet and a moderate bitterness. Oily and a bit soft carbonation. Powerful flavor. Toffee, caramel, fruitcake, bready and it feels like there is some whiskey as well. Lovely evening sipper.

Bottle. Pours in cloudy dark body with ruby hints againts the light, medium frosty stable head. Aroma has nice plum sweetness, caramely, nutty, toffee. Dark berries, alcohol well hidden. Taste has high spruce, pine, bitterness with yeasty sweetness. Alcohol is pretty noticable in the after taste. Body is pretty heavy, low to medium carbonation.

Yellow brown with a beige head that by time ends in a ring. Aroma a little sourish - wett socks and dry old books. The taste of bitter malt, dried red fruit, caramell, grapefruit. The mouthfeel is refreshing even though a low carbonatin level. Aftertaste of carmell and bitter hops.

Swing top bottle 11.2 fl.oz. Poured into a Kölsch glass. Nearly opaque dark brown with red copper hue, big and stable creamy beige head, recedes slowly to a thick layer that remains, good lacing; very complex aroma, strong roasted malts nose, caramel, brown sugar, portwine, dried dark fruits (raisins, dates, figs), cocoa, coffee, cinnamon, cloves; taste is heavy sweet and slightly bitter, roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark fruit syrup; full body, slick texture, soft carbonation, aftertaste malty sweetbitter, more earthy bitter and peppery notes in the finish, bit alcohol; overall a very rich beer, strong but well-balanced.
