COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

Bottled. An unclear brown beer with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and some fruit. The flavor is very sweet with notes of caramel, malt, and a bit of alcohol, leading to an alcohol dry finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Bottled. Hazy copper colour. Grassy aroma. A very powerful beer with thick mouthfeel. Plenty of malt sweetness and obvious notes of licorice. Much more barley wine character than altbier character, and with all the warming qualities of a barley wine.

2012-09-19, bottle from La Cave à Bulles, Paris, no date on the label, but fresh; 8-5-8-5-17=43
It pours a dark brown color, hazy, with generous compact head. There is a very rich malt aroma, with caramel, chocolate and pungent continental hops, and light horse/animal character, hay barn. Full bodied, with round mouthfeel; very good malt and caramel flavor, sweet, nutty, and with strong bitterness, of English or German tradition.
The perfect English Barley Wine.

2009-10-24, bottle from New Beer Distributors, NYC, 9-4-8-5-18=44
Brown color, small head. Good caramel aroma, light chestnut honey, nuts, hop. Perfect body strength, very rich caramel flavor; there is a nice sticky sweetness, dark honey, light roasted nuts; bold bitterness, and some hop qualities. Balanced, strong and complex. Comforting final warmth. The more I drink, the more I like this beer. Excellent.

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2013 Trade with Culchiem. Thanks. Pours dark brown with a small off white head. Very malty and yeasty. Dark fruit, sugars, rye and hops. Warmth. A close to a mess really. Too yeasty. Full bodied. Re-rate Odense Juni 13. Liquorice, chocolate, caramel. Vinous. Alcohol note. Less of a mess - less yeast. 3,5-3,6.
